A fantastic work of art. The depiction of hell doesn't mean much to me, but the film is full of impacting imagery and effective use of visual effects.

This has some great imagery and it was quite amazing for one of the first-ever feature-length films.

After nearly 100 years it's still SO entertaining. Amazing! And Tangerine Dream's music works perfect for this film.

I'll be honest, I never thought much of the story material of The Divine Comedy. It's a self-insert fanfic where Dante Alighieri gets to meet all his favorite heroes, and all of the people he doesn't like get what's coming to them. But this movie elevates the material and crafts imaginative imagery that is still fascinating after 100+ years.

Amazing locations and sets, combined with wonderful (and sometimes amusingly silly) special effects. The score by Tangerine Dream mostly works for the material, apart from the songs with lyrics. While it might get repetitive for some, I was too busy being impressed and immersed.

Goes through the script meticulously, relying more in the huge cast and sets than the cinematography

some impressive elements, but it's boring, disjointed and generally just not very good. okay, sure, it's a 1911 feature, but still...sure is fucking miserable though, with a shit ton of nudity.

Some interesting scenes, but the plot is uninteresting and the score is annoying and distracting. Overall, it's quite dull and silly.

For some reason this has a good reputation, but aside from some striking imagery which quickly becomes repetitive, there just wasn't much here for me. Even when compared to its contemporaries, this is no Melies, for instance. It's the oldest surviving feature film, so an historical curiosity for sure, but good movie it isn't.

With the elaborate title cards and the camera panning from left to right sporadically it plays like a guided tour of Dante's Inferno more than a movie. Still there was a few things I appreciated. While L'inferno borrows some ideas from Méliès and others it has got it's own unique style and some of the trick photography is quite good in creating a hellish, doom-like atmosphere.
