It appears baffling and absurd on first viewing, but this film is very rewarding to the patient viewer. Chaplin and Oscarsson both give brilliant naturalistic performances even given the challenging material. The chemistry and tension between them makes the film engrossing, although it's definitely a weird obscurity that will only appeal to a small minority (Saura-aficionados, mainly).

Geraldine Chaplin is special in this. Make sense that she wrote it. Comes off as a very like personal fucked view of the world. Truly fucked up and beautiful

It first, it seems as if it's going to be another Saura study in memory, Then, as the playacting scenarios unfold and become increasingly more intense, it's apparent that they are communicating things that they are unable to say to each other in words. Excellent performances in an ultimately pointless exercise. Per Oscarsson is the perfect choice for the husband with his chilly reserve and hints of unplumbed depths.

Liked the idea behind the film and the acting performances but somehow it all felt too pointless to fully enjoy.
