This film by Guy E. Debord is based on his 1967 book of the same title both of which convey ideas about the consumer capitalism's mode of production and the effects on everyday life. Though both sources use a different means of communication they both powerfully convey the ideas of the situationists. I wont rant on about the ideas contain within this film which are quite profound and have influenced heavily on the Anti-Capitalist movement and post-structuralism through thinkers like Jean Baudril (imdb)

It is hard to know if the pictures of topless women are for the purposes of critique.

Obviously as a piece of theory Debord is much more important than a lot of filmmakers but movie wise it’s not up to like the standard of Godard and the like

I think the book is one of the most important works of the 20th century and this isn't essential by any means but it's still great. Also lots of naked chicks

While the notion of the spectacle as a new socio-technological epoch is deservedly influential, and Debord's anti-aesthetic commitment to cinema as a political instrument is admirable (though I would compare it unfavourably to Straub, Huillet, Watkins and, in a way, Syberberg), the theory underpinning his revolutionary approach is really a bit of a mishmash, and, despite his critique of bureaucratic Marxism, there is a nostalgic fixation on the fantasy of the proletariat's dialectical power.

The film juxtaposes the images and word in a very intelligent manner that sometimes purposely loses it's structure the way that there are episodes where the connection is really vague, forcing the viewer to concentrate. If the subject is familiar, there can be found some humorous parts where the détournement is used very effectively.

I'd rather recommend the book.
