A vida boêmia estreava há 30 anos na Itália. Gostei mais do que Le Havre, talvez porque eu ame La Boheme, mesmo assim não é sempre que estou no clima do Kaurismaki. BlurayRip no MakingOff.

Kaurismäki's version of Murger's tales of 1840s Paris revives the b&w film stocks and stilted, deadpan acting styles of a bygone era to depict a group of destitute artists as they cope with unlikely opportunities, hilarious coincidences, a tiny car, and a singular tragedy. Occasional glimpses of 1990s Paris remind us that this is all a stylistic choice, but every frame of the film radiates with honest nostalgia and a universal sympathy for the artistic struggle, tempered by relentlessly dry wit

An amusingly deadpan look at the roles of integrity and companionship in the bohemian lifestyle. Kaurismäki gently mocks the his subjects and their artistic whims, but he isn't cold about it. His subtle humor and the film's many varied characters add a lot of charming flavor to standard situations, and there's plenty of genuine sentimentalism to balance against his critical eye. It's surprisingly accessible, but a little light as a result.

Another coocky but effective tragicomedy from Kaurismäki that shows enormous empathy towards the characters it's also sending up. Very enjoyable but not up there with his best.

Started of well and progressed promisingly. The last 30 minutes weren't as good.

An understated, proletarian fairy tale about the daily struggle to survive, Kaurismaki finds humour in his characters plight without a hint of condescension or contempt. The tragi-comic style is deadpan and comparable to Jarmusch, but Kaurismaki's style is less self consciously arty, more naturalistic; and unlike Jarmusch, he is rarely trying to emphasise the significance of any particular moment. He is more concerned with capturing the bleak yet funny day-to-day lives of his characters.

Probably the best movie about being a "struggling artist" that i've ever seen. It's exactly like something i would have written in my late teens/early 20s except i would have envisioned it as a moody, faux-poetic serious drama whereas Kaurismaki plays it in his typical deadpan tragi-comic way that of course makes it a hundred times better and more emotionally "true" than my adolescent, dreamy navel-gazing would have surely been.

Speaking of auteurs, Kaurismäki surely is worth mentioning as one of the last 20-odd years' finest. You can see that this is an Aki-film from the very first minute, and the tempo, style (very noir-30's-french-ish-lightning in exterior) and manuscript is so very recognizable as his. They speak as were they reading the script out loud, yet it ends up full of charm, being serious, funny and melancholic at the same time. Watch this film about bohemian life in Paris. Love, food, wine and hardship.

I'm afraid I know absolutely nothing about the original stories or Puccini's opera, but the film is about three starving artists - a writer, a painter, and a composer - struggling and scheming their way through a bohemian life. Their self-importance in spite of a profound lack of talent provides many comic moments, and yet Kaurismaki succeeds in building a connection with them, and the tragic ending is quite touching. Very funny and warm, quite watchable throughout.
