Such a cool film from Julien Duvivier! So dirty and gritty with Jean Gabin as a Parisian murderer hiding in Spain without any means of support, having to resort to desperate measures. Join the Foreign Legion! La bandera (1935) does every taboo it possibly can for a 1930s movie with topless dancers, brothels, inter-racial love and full-face tattoos! Jumps fast from one scandal to the other & tries almost too hard to shock, leaving little time for the emotions of the darkness to establish itself.
