La condition canine

Powerful simplicity. After a brief pan of a crowd of men, Jia keeps the camera focused almost entirely on their property, a group of dogs for sale. Grown dogs are chained to vehicles, but the primary focus of the film is on a group of puppies kept in a burlap sack. Hearing their cries and growls from within the bag speaks not only to the just treatment of animals, but of the broader condition of a society that condones such practices as well.
