This movie excels in the departments of atmosphere and aerial filmography. Apart from these obvious assets I thought this movie was nothing special. The plot was unable to transcend the typical noire conventions: the world is corrupt, women are victims, a cynical, alcoholic cop has to cooperate with an idealistic, puritan cop, crimes are solved but the circumstances that made them possible in the first place are left intact, etc. etc. etc. ...

Beautiful to look at but lacks an engaging plot.

Expected a bit more. The opening shots are jaw dropping and overal the shots and the atmosphere mysterious. The dynamic between the two detectives is intriguing, but the story is sober. It's a typical murder story, nothing new, ...

Some real Spanish True Detective vibes here. It is similar to the US series by being bleak, having rotten-to-the-core characters, a pair of detectives of very different methods and views, and the drained marshland color palette accompanied by the soundtrack of slow guitars. The plot keeps you engaged enough and while I didn't entirely get into the mindset of the main characters, they worked off each other well. Worth a watch if you're into slow and dark murder mysteries.

Part True Detective aerial shots, part detective procedural, part potato blandness, this grim yet standard mystery fare teeters on the edge of oblivion as it shifts gears between different established styles without leaving an indelible mark of its own. Basically, stuff happens, a guy shaves his grizzled moustache, and I'm pretty sure Me Vale Madre is slang for I don't give a crap.

If you like your detective films, give this grim one a watch, but only expect a competently made example of this genre, rather than anything ground-breaking. Procedural as hell, giving the structure a repetitive, but often rewarding feeling. I've seen this (accurately) likened to True Detective, but I think this film is inferior.

Stylish but not very plottish.

Nice areal shooting and brilliant atmosphere but unnecessarily slow paced and too cryptic plot. Dragged a lot.

Even if I didn't always know what was going on, the film was undeniably atmospheric and suspenseful, and built up very steadily towards a thrilling conclusion. The interplay between the two detectives with different mindsets was used just enough. Futhermore, the director and cinematographer made good use of the landscape with some stunning shots. All in all, a lukewarm story held together with impressive style and mood. Very reminiscent of "True Detective", season 1.

I have never seen a movie try so hard to overcomplicate a really simple story.

İspanya, Kırsal, av evi, cinayet, polisiye, dedektif, franko sonrası ispanya, İki genç kız öldürülür ve iki dedektif olayı araştırır. Sürükleyici değildi, filmin içine giremedim.

The physical and socio/political setting of the film creates an atmosphere of tension and suspense, even though the plot is fairly standard. The relationship between the old and new regime was mirrored convincingly in the relationship between the two detectives.

Too slow, some may call this deliberate pacing but I find it tedious. It's all well shot but it's too slow to keep my attention - there's too much non-important detail

Wannabe True Detective/The Secret in Their Eyes thriller certainly looks the part but fails on storyline and plot.
