This film has some noteworthy points, such as the fairly good naturalistic performances by the young trio of actors, the intensity of some key scenes and the director's unflinching commitment to brutality and nihilism. However, the Spanish/Indian subplot did feel a bit forced, and the whole story could be seen as formulaic, but perhaps only if you've watched Cary Fukunaga's Sin Nombre which has a very similar plot. Worth a look but not that memorable.

Really good, but it didn't grip me as much as it should have, which is probably just down to this not being my type of film.

This is a grim and sobering watch, even though it has some nice settings and decent cinematography. The story is perhaps not quite as predictable as it may have been, which I liked. Its a thoughtful film I suppose, mainly about immigration and the pursuit of the supposed 'American Dream'. The cast do well and if your interested in it, I'd recommend it.
