I've said this before but Dramas hadn't fully developed at this point yet and as such this ended up being a decent looking, well done reenactment with no emotional or dramatic depth. It wouldn't be until film makers started to add camera angles, lighting, framed shots, close ups, and later music to create mood and tension that dramatic works really came into their own. Plus actor would continue to improve their ability to express emotion in silent film as time went on.

Sets of biblical tableaux were some of the first things approaching a long form in film to really take off with the public in the first decade of the 20th century, though they weren't always shown all at once. Alice Guy's set is a typical mix of nice stage scenes and occasional outdoor shots, with plenty of extras. It's also more completely preserved than most of the others from the five years or so preceding.

Incredibly impressive for its time, but nevertheless it's basically a series of static tableaux - more of a moving church painting with extras ambling through it than any actual storytelling. That said, if I'd seen this in 1906, I'd probably have lost my shit.
