Overly melodramatic, but the usual for this time period. Adequate acting from all the players with William Powell putting in a earnest portrayal and raises the movie above the rest of the pack. Powell down plays the role and isn't as suave as he usually is in most of his other roles. Wow what an ending tho.

It's not a terrible movie; just a little dull. Powell again takes on the stuffy cad persona that he's perpetually cast as, and women just seem to throw themselves at him. The ending is a bit unexpected, which makes it worth sitting through once -- be sure you don't mind taking in the sets and the costuming during the slow parts (which appear relatively often). Favorite bits are with the scene-stealing Lombard, who livens things up a little by getting drunk.

William Powell as a gigolo bouncing between Kay Francis, Olive Tell and the future "Mrs. William Powell", Carole Lombard, whom he married shortly after this film was released! A fairly unapologetic approach to the male gold digger plot, but with a very melodramatic finish. Powell is naturally likable as the super gentleman there for the ladies entertainment. However the best reason to watch this below average Powell picture is to experience Lombard in a drunken craze!
