Bamforth didn't understand the basic continuity of editing. He makes visual mistakes in his cross-cutting which are interesting because they're primitive even for early film.

It's a rare example of something that's funnier over a century after it was made, because it's so blatantly misogynistic and they didn't have our political correctness back then. Yes, what he did with the fence is a gross continuity miscalculation, but I don't care about that.

Uses a rotating set to give the illusion of seeing two sides of the same fence. I guess that's neat...

It gets the basics of shot-to-shot continuity entirely backwards in a way only something this old could, but it's basically a cheap music-hall pantomime gag on film, so a little sloppiness is to be expected, I guess. (On which note, I'm pretty sure those two are no ladies.)
