Gun moll Nan Taylor, caught after an otherwise successful bank robbery, falls for radio crusader David Slade and confides her guilt to him. Much to her surprise, he turns her in. As a "new fish" at San Quentin, Nan fits right in, but won't see Slade, who still loves her. Then she learns that her former partners in crime, Don and Dutch, are on the other side of the wall in the men's section... and have an escape plan. (imdb)

Stanwyck is charming as always. Bare plot that doesn't really make any sense. Interesting enough to keep your attention during its short runtime.

"Watch out for her...she likes to wrestle!" I love the way the female inmates refer to each other as "fish"--dames after my own heart. Stanwyck is the tough-but-vulnerable lead, and as usual, the best reason to watch this. There are lots fun character turns from supporting actresses, though, and it moves along briskly. It's also the movie debut of Etta Moten as the unseen singing inmate. Later that year she sang--unforgettably--the Forgotten Man in Gold Diggers of 1933. A worthwhile hour+.

Liked the subtle contrast between the men's and the women's sides of the prison.

Plenty of raw snacks in this one! Barbara Stanwyck as a cold lady of the bad side with few regrets. Stanwych is hard and likable, and the production brings a lot. Cool scenes, plenty of story and even comedy with the strange characters in the prison. But the issue I have with most 1930s Stanwych movies is that it's so short that it has to cheat on the story to get to goal. There is so much here and it's all rushed! Still, Ladies They Talk About is a real treat! One of her best 30s films.
