Lady Chatterley's Lover

Good movie. Believable story for the time and scene.

Despite its faults, "Lady Chatterley's Lover" is a well-directed and well-acted film that reclaims a once-scandalous story as one of a woman asserting her independence. The sex scenes are the hottest in any film of this young decade, and Emma Corrin's portrayal of Constance's journey towards self-discovery is nothing short of brilliant. While the screenplay could have done better with the novel's themes, the film still manages to be an engaging watch.

Soft core porn trying to be more than it is.

I write erotica as a side hustle and this movie was too much for me. I reiterate: I spend my days writing porn and I found this movie too indulgent on that front. If there's no plot, chemistry nor believable buildup, you land with a pizza delivery soft-core D tier adult entertainment. I had to skip the hanky panky scenes because they felt so awkward. Usually that's my bread and butter. So it's not because I'm too skittish. This simply didn't work. PWP as we writers would label this.

Good casting, especially for Oliver Mellors: wild, sexy, yet somehow a gentleman feeling, with a rustic Scottish accent. However, poor adaptation and standardised cinematic language have led to the loss of some richness of the novel, in terms of the complexity of characters and themes and (especially) sexual-psychological journey as a main plot, and flattened the masterpiece into a movie not much more than just another story about equality and "giving up everything for true love".
