Lady Musashino

I was engaged with the story and characters the entire time but the ending really pissed me off. All the characters are so selfish and ignorant to anyone else's feelings that they don't even learn anything from what happened.

62 where "62" means OK, but... A very timebound piece about the conflict between tradition and modernity. At least it recognises that outside its walled garden tradition will always be left behind... but that may not be for the best. Well acted, though the "most men are bastards" air can be a bit much. As with most movies of this vintage the vision, though quite servicable would benefit markedly from a remaster The score can be intrusive in parts.

Mostly interesting for the changing attitudes in post-war Japan. The story is fine too. Kinuyo Tanaka is the queen of these semi-complicated flirts, so while it's not the most passionate of fling, but she makes it work.
