Who doesn't love a broken woman? Unfortunately, that ultimate male fantasy is just that and this merely panders to it by portraying one of America's original sex/drugs/RnR(jazz?) badasses as a helpless damsel in need of a man's guidance. +20 points for being about the best vocalist I'll ever know, but Whatsherface does Holiday a disservice by being the exact opposite of everything that makes Billie the best vocalist I'll ever know. Also, she's a Jazz singer. Fuck you guys, just fuck you guys.

For all the crap that "Ms.-Ross-To-You" took for thinking she could pull off the only biopic made on the crazy life of one Billie Holiday, she actually showed up her detractors. It's kind of a shame that she would only make two more motion pictures to date - Mahogany and The Wiz - and they both sucked. This movie is a true class act in an era where black cinema was all about The Mack and Superfly. Her performance was better than Liza's in Cabaret, and she should've won Best Actress that year.

Probably the only good performance Diana Ross ever gave.
