This film is, in some ways, better than "Lady Snowblood". It moves at a quicker pace while retaining that film's inventive visual style.

Lady Snowblood 2: Love Song of Vengeance is not as strong as the original Lady Snowblood perhaps suffering from too much intrigue and not enough blood spraying rampage. Meiko Kaji is still eminently watchable.

Huh, I was under the impression this was not as good as the first, but it may even be better. I haven't seen that one in years so it's hard to compare, but this has great fight scenes, wonderful cinematography and plot that carries some significant weight beyond a revenge story. It's not a complex film, but it picks a scope and does very well within that scope.

So its like the first one but with the violence and style turned down to 1. The secret police hq scenes were the only interesting parts...the sets were garish and tacky in that inimicable 70s villain way and these scenes were also the only ones shot with wild creativity.

You know what's better than blood splattered swordplay? It's not a slow twisty political plot but it might be the detective that looks like he's from the Japanese Pink Panther.

And a perfectly watchable sequel.

It pales in comparison to the first movie, and overall feels like a watered-down, unnecessary sequel. It is much more exploitative (Japanese sex scene), and slower moving than the first movie. But there is fun to be had here. Juzo Itami is in the role of mustachioed anarchist. The bad guys seems lifted from comic books. It should be ignored by the people who liked the first film, but aren't into 70's japanese exploitation cinema, but on it's own it is quite fun, entertaining flick.

Disappointing sequel to a great original. It has some stylish moments but also some awkwardly staged ones. Meiko Kaji is great as usual but her character sadly takes the back seat in a twisty political plot that is nowhere near as interesting as anything in the original. The ending was ok.
