After spending almost 2 hours watching a cricket game I can safely say ... it is a stupid sport I dont get it and don't care for it at all. But ... this is such a great underdog sport movie I was able to tough it out. The villain is straight out of the school of 80s jock villainy

If you were to describe this movie to me -- a four hour, subtitled musical about cricket in nineteenth century India -- I would have scoffed at you. But, somehow, this movie was absolutely fascinating,

Had to write an essay about this movie for a class. Paaaaaaaaaainful! But I am not a fan of bollywood to begin with...

Overlong but entertaining. Moves along at a decent pace and the musical numbers are enjoyable. Kind of a cliched sports triumph against the odds film, but it's well done. It probably would have helped if I understood how cricket works, though.

A one of a kind musical experience. Exhuberant and exciting, with a tinge of sex.

Watched this over and over. Takes a little getting used to. I've seen several other Indian movies - nothing else comes close.

Not too bad, despite my complete lack of interest in cricket

My first thought upon the realization that I was watching a 3.5 hour Bollywood musical about cricket was "kill me now" but fortunately it was much more digestible than I was expecting. I still don't like the genre, this is probably the best I've seen so far.

At first I was intimidated but then I was welcomed into one of the most entertaining and engaging sports movies I've ever seen.

The film is a tour-de-force, at a traditional length of an overwhelming 3 1/2 hours that delivers a strong narrative, holding my attention and interest if not my bladder.

Surprisingly interesting characters, and the intricacies of cricket are perfect for the traditional back and forth of a movie-sport showdown.

It is cliched and the romance subplots are underdeveloped but it's in many ways a well made movie and I enjoyed sitting through all of it. The musical bits, especially in the first half, are excellent and the cricket match is exciting even though I came into it not understanding the game.

I'm starting to get really jaded on these Aamir-Khan-starring, family-friendly, somewhat-educational, historically-significant movies. This one just felt so padded, and had so many pointless subplots and scenes that go nowhere, that the best I can say is that the music is pretty good and I got a few laughs at the movie's expense.

One of the best movies in the recent times... The movie is a work of fiction in the backdrop of British rule in India and how villagers of a state take it to fight (play) against it. Very nice songs and very interesting, catchy story.

I can imagine people being put off by the dubbed singing, dance sequences, and conventional plot. Yet, it is also a film with heart and energy. A lavishly produced epic that is both universally entertaining and culturally significant. Concerning India's long struggle with colonialism, I absolutely hated Attenborough's 'Gandhi' for its one-dimensional approach. But Lagaan perfectly captures a certain spirit, a certain quest, in a way that most western movies would be unable to pull off.

Just like cricket, Lagaan seems to never end. But also like cricket occasionally, it's a thrilling ride all the way. Like a normal length movie with a two hour final battle by the means of cricket.

It can be at times cheesy, but I think it;s a testament to the film-making that this 3.5-hour movie never feels its length. Colourful, fun and way more exciting than you'd expect any film about cricket to be, it's definitely a film that's earned a place among the canon of great movie musicals..

Overrated in many regards. But definitely one of the better executed Bollywood movies of the year.

Everything leading up to it was horrible clichéd (It's not enough the antagonist is colonizing party overtaxing people, he also has to be a horrible human who shoots innocent rabbits) and I could have done without the love triangle, but the cricket game self was engaging. So basically the movie is okay when it just shows what happening, but completely falters when it tries to do any characterization or backstory.

Despite clocking in at close to four hours, this moves at a fair clip. With the charismatic Khan at its centre it is always engaging and even had me riveted by a cricket match. Predictable, colourful, over the top, sometimes silly… great entertainment if one is in the mood.

4 hours of Hindi Kyle MacLachlan squaring off with British Billy Zane in a game of cricket. My main takeaway was that a single game of cricket lasts longer than a day.
