Lake Placid Serenade

Vera Ralston, Republic Pictures's very own ice queen. I found Lake Placid Serenade (1944) on par with Sonja Henie's ice skating offerings. Much helped by a Christmas singing cameo from Roy Rogers and general attempts at making this movie feel more special that your average entertainer. The plot is lacking, but naturally, being 1944, the war reference is included and they do a good job with the ice numbers. Works as a diversion, but I wish they'd done more to make the story matter.
