Almost passes because Rapace is great, Johannsson directed a pretty movie, and Ada is a cute little sheep-boy. This might just be a me thing but the domestic drama was drowned because of what Maria did to Ada's mom. Couldn't give a fuck about her or her husband, and when the unsurprising ending came, meh. Cared slightly because of Ada. I understand what the movie was attempting, but this didn't have the desired effect on me. Kind of formulaic but sub-par A24 stuff, honestly.

A uniquely human experience, in spite of all the fantastical narrative liberties Jóhannsson takes. While the film may deter the more detail-oriented viewer with it's ambiguity, it more than makes up for it in it's mystique and Nordic charm. Grounded, fervent performances pave the way for open-ended storytelling that serves as an allegory for animal empathy. A captivating directorial debut that is not without it's flaws, but is the type of film that lingers on your tongue for weeks thereafter.

weird film, honestly. i don't think it reached its full potential at all, but it's still decent.

A mom with an iPad could shoot a gorgeous movie in Iceland but it’s still meaningful to say this is a beautiful film - also well performed. That you could replace its droning soundtrack with melodic folk music to instantly transform it into an adorable fable makes it a curious one to review. As it is, it’s never horrific or even disturbing but rather just . . . a bit unsettling. Quiet and strange, pretty and interesting, but mostly just, “Huh, weird.”

I really loved the first act. Atmospheric, tense, strange, funny, dark. But I don’t think Jóhannsson really knows where to go after that. I like the rest of the film, but it does feel a bit like wheel-spinning. It also becomes slightly more conventional, although it finds interesting avenues even in its conventions. Still super solid and the whole thing is gorgeous to look at, but I really pine for a slightly more fearless version of this.

Beyond its ignoring the elephant, er lamb, in the room, it's gotta be THE strangest movie of all time. And you think they'd at least have had a non-obscure ending in store, but noooo. Sequel hunting???? The only positives, it isn't a horror movie, at least not a typical one, (sick, more like it), and the dialogue is so limited the subtitles didn't detract significantly.

Great shots of Iceland. Makes it look like one of the most beautiful places on Earth. leaves you feeling unsettled through out. Go see it on the big screen for the landscapes alone!

Need some convincing on this one. Beautifully shot with it’s location, kingdom like and very fitting for it’s attempted parable. Unfortunately I find it lacking a deeper connection within it’s journey, but there are definitely great cinematic moments and not just because it’s A24

Esse é meu tipo de filme, que traz nossa familiaridade com os animais de forma inquietante, Das Unheimliche. Quanto menos sabemos sobre ele, mais interessante fica. WEBRip no MakingOff.

Aile filmi. İlginç. 3 bölümde anlatılan film, çiftlik evinde yaşayan evli çiftimizin, koyunlarından birinin yarı kuzu yarı insan doğurup evlat edinmelerini anlatıyor. Ağır tempoda ilerleyen film, oyuncuların gücü ile izlettiriyor. Değişik konusu, fazla uzatılmış geldi. Ağrı dağının eteğinde misali doğa manzarası harika. Filmin sonunda, kuzu gidiyor.

Didn't know much about this, beside that is a slow burning horror. And it's best to approach the movie that way. It has a great uncanny atmosphere and creates a constant ominous feeling, while also offering a subdued exploration of a couple working trough grief trough newfound happiness. But the finale reveal didn't completely live up to the great built up.

No denying the landscapes, and the Sad Europeans Doing Tasks kino. Depends mostly on how much you wring out of its hushed folk tale nightmare at the surface because it doesn't ever extend its arms to connect deeper. I got about an hour of satisfaction, but for a film about a desperate bargain for family against inevitable karmic retribution, I consistently struggled to feel the love. The nurturing yes, the feeding and the clothing and the teaching, but all as mundane as the tasks before.

There is such a thing as too tasteful and understated, especially in this kind of folk horror where the immediate impact of the human transgression into a sacred realm and its eventual punishment have to be at least something of a gut punch. I couldn't point to anything the film does especially badly, but it feels inert from a dramatic standpoint; the cinematography, while beautiful, only adds to this rather clinical feel, with its clean, evenly lit gray landscapes.

Lamb, Pig, Cow...is A24 getting into the farm business? Pretty thin movie here, and as picturesque as the setting is, Iceland has certainly looked better in film before.

I wasn't actively pissed off while watching, but in retrospect, I'm pissed off. Simply put, there is nothing satisfying about this story, despite the central mystery holding my attention. It is trying to be grand, mysterious, and heartbreaking, but this anti folk horror concept largely fails.

It had everything going for a low fantasy horror, but it always manages to make the worst choices -- despite the atmosphere that really delivers some welcoming weirdness.

A unique movie for sure, but not for everyone. Particularly if you aren't fond of subtitles. Good performances.

This film definitely has a vision, and it uses it not really to tell a horror/fantasy story as to delve into some ideas about life, domesticity and grief (we gradually discover that the couple's malaise is partly due to a child that died). The kid-with-a-lamb's-head plot does resolve itself in some fashion, but this is much more a film about atmosphere than anything else. I appreciated the seriously strange take on domestic drama and loved it's desolate setting.
