Bruce unloads into everyone he kills. If he's going to shoot you, he's going to do it six times.

When one bullet won't do, Bruce will give you ten. Walter Hill infuses this "remake" with his usual testosterone, but it is the narrative that lets it down. The plot simply consists of characters saying other character's names in noir-speak.

It's quite good really, as far as hard-ass movies go, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a forth retalling of the same story, without anything really new to offer.

Bruce Willis kills lots of people for no real reason while mumbling. Ace.

Christopher Walken is a great villain. Bruce WIllis is a great tough-talking action hero. But this isn't all that good. It's ok, but not good. NOt a patch on "A Fist Full of Dollars" which is based on the same Japanese story.

A tight, action-packed action movie. Combines a Western sensibility with two-fisted gunplay.

Entirely underrated, with a mood and look that few modern action movies can match.

Almost as good as "For a Fistfull of Dollars", the other "Yojimbo"-remake. Good cinematography, some great action scenes and Michael Imperioli. Honestly, I'm surprised by how many people dislike this film.

Classically trained Bruce Willis styled action-western, GO! Plots like these don't need to be sharp when the substance is so meaty.

This remake of old Clint Eastwood spagetti western is absolutely crap! Hollywood please stop remaking movies of the golden era, it sucks! ten points fo Bruce only.

A remark of 'A Fistfull of Dollars' which in turn is a remake of, etc., etc. This is almost an interesting film, it tries so hard to capture the atmosphere of depression-era America, but always seems to miss its' mark. It left me feeling curiously flat. Willis smirks and pouts like a good 'un, trying hard to out-shine the Eastwood performance, sadly, he fails. Stick to one of the originals.

Being a pretty faithful remake of Yojimbo, it's not too bad. There's nothing that really stands out, though, and there's way too much narration.

It's a noir cum western with Willis and Walken. While suffering terribly of both western and noir cliches, it manages to be watchable due to pretty solid perfomances all around.

Somewhat fun but not exactly good; Bruce Willis is good and so is Christopher Walken, and the action scenes are pretty good too, but it is no For a Fistful of Dollars or Yojimbo.

If you can put aside the goofiness, lack of authenticity and over the top performances, its got some cheese entertainment value. Look for the particularly hilarious scene with the wires jerking a stuntman with ridiculous force after being "shot".

very similar to every other movie directed by walter hill -- maintains a gritty feel the entire time, characters are static but brought to life by good actors, shootouts are workmanlike but pleasing.

If you ignore its connections to two famous films with the same premise, there is still the issue that, for its attempts to be a very masculine film, it feels exceptionally forced, trying to ramp up the male machismo and intensity of scenes out of desperation rather than because it fits the mood of the piece. Christopher Walken stands out, but he's Christopher Walken, while everyone one else seems to be stranded on a film set scored to hard rock blues rather than in a lawless frontier town.

Walter Hill goes western. Hill was never the best director, merely a good story teller. And unfortunately the story in this one is rather simple. But still its got enough style and good acting/scripting/cinematography to keep us watching. And some action scenes are pretty darn kick ass.. If you like modern westerns or are a fan of Willis, your gonna love this.

Roughly speaking in Darren Aronofsky's words, there is nothing worse than a boring film. This particular one is so bleak, stale, uninspired and dull that it drags on and on and on. There is no entertainment in the film, nothing beautiful or exciting. The actors' deliveries are monotonous - even for Willis who is the king of monotonousness. A dull colour palette throughout. And gunfights that would've been almost decent if they were not so boring. A gangster remake instead of a western!? Come on.

Yet another Yojimbo remake. Why? Because somebody, somewhere, wanted it. It's an utterly superfluous film that is watchable due to Hill's idiosyncracies. It's easy to see why it wasn't well received: its grim joyless tone combined with its ambiguous genre leanings (is it a gangster film or a western?) and stagey theatrics give it an oddly airless atmosphere that is hard to warm to. Willis is no Mifune or Eastwood, but he gets the job done, and the Woo inspired gun play is brutal.

Viewed September 30, 2020. A true auteurist test for Walter Hill fans. This remake of Yojimbo feels more indebted to John Woo than Akira Kurosawa, and it may very well be Hill's most stylish and abstract work.
