Last Night

I cannot believe I almost passed up on this movie due to such a low PSI.. its refreshingly real, well acted, wonderful score and good script. Finally came across a good movie in recent memory...

Worthington is his usual bland self but Knightley is very bad here. Her acting style is mannered, without an ounce of naturalism. Canet is pretty good. The film builds towards an understanding of the characters rather than a point. The low tempo fits, as does the moody piano-based score, composed by Clint Mansell. I am in awe of that guy.

Very underrated in my opinion. It never did get compelling enough but it came close. The "will they or won't they" theme is surprisingly subtle and insightful and never feels like a gimmick. It also did not settle for easy answers to the complicated situation. My main gripe is the Knightley/Canet scenes were infinitely more interesting when compared to the underwritten Worthington/Mendes scenes. A flawed but engaging drama about the nature of modern relationships and temptations.

A surprise... Has all the things to make it dull, but it never gets... Touches upon topics almost everyone once in a lifetime goes through no matter how happy you are...

Last Night is ultimately a film that only works in pieces and rarely, if ever, comes together as a satisfying experience. It contains two mostly separate stories about two souls tempted to cheat on their partner, but only one of these stories works and only then because of the actors involved. With that said, there's more depth and reasoning that goes into the decision making process, and I have to admit that I was hoping the characters would make the right choice.

I found this engaging all the way through, even if some of the scenes were a little difficult to watch. Nice performance here from Keira Knightley. The musical score was right on point.

i liked a lot the mood. I also liked the together life they revealed through small gestures and way of saying things. I'm not that keen of Knightley, but Guillaume Canet and Eva Mendes were nice to follow.

Pretty dull. I mean pretty and dull.

The best thing about this film is its visuals - the stars are all good-looking, the upmarket locations clean and spotless, and the cinematography is both slick and pleasant. Even if there was a scene where Keira slipped in dog poop and smashed her teeth on a homeless person, it would still be done in an artful manner. However, the film's premise doesn't really work because Knightley fits better with Canet and Worthington with Mendes. Still, an inoffensive way to live vicariously for 1.5 hours.

Obviously the film was effective, because it made me fucking crazy. Nobody is in control of their own actions. Humans have no agency. We're all ruled by our biology. Fuck off.

2 hours of watching getting close - "Wish I could but then I cant" Knightly looked too unhealthily thin

Unbelievably boring, with no pay-off whatsoever.

Badly written script, as well as the direction is sub par. The ending was too easy and has no concrete message regarding the premise. Shame.

The whole thing about temptation is not so bad, but the acting -- the old Griffin Dunne is an exception -- just ruins everything.

This was rather enjoyable after entering with zero expectations. One side of the split story approach works way better, but overall this was a very raw and rather haunting film. ...and I love Clint Mansell!

A very nice film to watch if you don't have any expectations at all. Its a nice movie and I felt I learned something from it, even if I don't know what exactly. It is the most "real" movie I can remember watching. The acting and the story are so good I did not actually consider judging it, because it just seemed to be reality I was watching. It certainly isn't a very exciting movie, but it seems to be produced by very, very talented people.

It is far beyond the juvenile time-jumping in Blue Valentine or the old-fogey show tunes nostalgia of any random Nora Ephron movie.

The rare occasion when an unknown romantic film from tv retains my attention until the end.

Too dull to say anything about it. Just don't watch it, boooorrring.

Just because a movie is slow and boring doesn't mean it's going to get awards or critical attention. Unfortunately it does help. But in this case the film seem to have bored out both the cricks and the viewers! It just sucks!

Playing 'just the tip' for 90 minutes takes its toll on one half of the duo, while the other half still managed to make me unhappy. It is all fine, but not very compelling. Clint Mansell's score is worth a listen, however.
