Jack Dodd was a London butcher who enjoyed a pint with his mates for over 50 years. When he died, he died as he lived, with a smile on his face watching a horse race on which he had bet, with borrowed money. But before he died he had a final request, 'Last Orders', that his ashes be scattered in the sea at Margate. The movie follows his mates, Ray, Lenny and Vic and his foster son Vince as they journey to the sea with the ashes. Along the way, the threads of their lives, their loves and their disappointments are woven together in their memories of Jack and his wife Amy (imdb)

Bad, both directing and editing, but I just love the cast.

A half-baked, weep-weep character drama that does include some genuinely affecting moments, mostly thanks to the splendid British cast that delivers a series of finely tuned performances, particularly Mirren. However, as a whole, "Last Orders" feals uneven and minor and, constrained by the conventions of the genre, is unable to grow into something bigger than standard road-trip tearjerker.

Although it's not particularly daring with its plot, Last Orders is still an interesting enough character ensemble piece to make it worth a look-see.

I was actually quite impressed. Everyone in this movie was awesome and it played a great story, one that unfolded little by little, giving each character depth that most movies lack. It's a pure drama, so don't go into this one expecting Hollywood fun, but a great story with great actors can be quite gripping in it's own right.

Helen Mirren is great, as is a lot of the cast. However, Michael Caine is the same role he is every single movie and I hate it. The movie unfolds like a book, but it's a movie. It just doesn't work well.

"By film's end, Last Orders becomes a male weepy of the rarest kind: one that earns its tears." - Ed Gonzalez

boring. Swift's earlier work was much better - Gulliver's Travels, stuff like that.

Rather boring.

A faithful adaptation of Swift's novel, skilfully employing the same flashback structure. The storyline feels minimal, but the veteran cast is great to watch.

It really didn't have the desired affect. Try Tuesdays With Morrie.
