A flawed, but ultimately touching coming of age film which brings across a manner of unease that could only come from a film riding on the tail end of the 60's. I found the relationship between the girl and her two boys disturbing but hauntingly beautiful, with perhaps a slight homoerotic subtext running throughout.

I love it more every time. It's delicate and compassionate but churning with rage and desire. A perfect look at teenage life.

The most accurate representation of people from Long Island I’ve ever seen

An interesting film about how sexual tension--particularly when that tension is held in uneasy balance and then disrupted--can lead to violence. The film is full of pity and compassion for these young people, but looks at them clearly.

The only good part about this one was the scene where they wash each other's hair. Otherwise overblown and completely canned, a real relic of the 60s...from the guy who foisted on us David & Lisa, The Swimmer and Mommie Dearest. Poor Evan Hunter got stuck writing this thing.

Memorable turn by Catherine Burns. Not available on DVD. I wonder if this inspired the Gentle Giant album cover with “Three Friends” sitting around a seagull.
