A lesser movie with William Powell. Only meant to be a pleasing time-filler, it's does more then it's intended job. Powell turn shyster lawyer to get his career back on track. This all done in the typical Powell charming manner, and with a decent dose of pre-code spice to make the movie more appealing. Joan Blondell was almost too nice to be a shyster's secretary, but along with Powell gave this Warner Bros programmer a high level of A-star personality!

This movie is fast paced and tons of fun. William Powell is a blast and Joan Blondell is a great foil for him.

A bit of fun, almost overtly at times. The quick-fire plot doesn't completely satisfy, but makes the film easier to digest considering its aims and purposes.

Solid pre-Code drama with principled lawyer Powell climbing the ranks of his profession (with wise-cracking secretary Blondell by his side), and not liking the corruption at the top one bit. As always, the two stars give terrific performances.

Decent-enough early "dramedy" with some rapid-fire put-downs (Blondell excels here) on top of a story about big-town corruption. There's almost too much characterization, with Powell gawking at every woman that walks by, except not much is done with that. A bit surprising to have a lawyer movie without a cross-examination or closing statement.
