Charming piece of fluff utilising gorgeous shots of Paris (and its gourmet food) to add life and interest to its eclectic array of characters. Given the rag-tag, shambolic structure, (a departure from the usually controlled Merchant-Ivory production) it is unfortunate that no-one in the cast gets an opportunity to shine, though Hudson has never been more likable, or co-star Close more eccentric. Unexpectedly serious turn in Watts' story perhaps the only clanging wrong-note.

Le Divorce is a horrible film, devoid of life, joy, and wit. It needed to be trimmed down by at least 30 minutes, it needed to remove most of its trivial and needles subplots, and it needed characters we cared about. If it tried to do anything, it tried to contrast the American and French societies. But if that's what it goal was, it needed to actually mention that more than a few times throughout, and have the characters experience that idea instead of having random people mention it offhand.

This was a confusing movie. It jumped from one thing to another, and Isabel had an affair with her sister's husband's uncle, which I find creepy. Wouldn't they be related through her sister's marriage? Anyways, I found this movie terrible and I wish I could throw it off a cliff.

A nonsensical and shambolic film whose subplots are so random and tenuously linked that it feels like channel-hopping. The film fails to blend comedy, drama, romance and suspense, and has no idea what it is trying to be about. You could say it's about relationships, but these go nowhere, while snobbish elders cast negative opinions every two minutes. Horrible story, horrible dialogue and horrible acting. And James Ivory's direction is so heavy-handed it feels like a first-timer's video of Paris.

American sisters (Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts) in Paris start turning heads. One starts an affair with an older man, the other in the process of a divorce and a battle over a valuable painting. Despite the predigree of a Merchant/Irovy production and a very classy cast, this is incredibly dull. Neither funny nor dramatic to be called a romantic comedy/drama. Hard work.
