Very nice little mockumentary (just over an hour long) about Le Donk, the narcissistic manager/sidekick of English rapper Scor-zay-zee. Donk must at all times hog the spotlight, despite his talentlessness. The film owes more to Spinal Tap than to Ali G. It is a deadpan satire of the music business, funny but also humane and sympathetic. The dramatic elements are subtle, devoid of sentimentality, and consequentially - genuinely moving.

Very Alan Partridge, but Paddy Considine owns it enough for it not to matter.

I'm shocked at how much I don't care about this.....just shocked. Paddy Considine takes on a David Brent-esque character, which should be the greatest thing ever, but the script doesn't seem to know how to use him. I can't laugh with or at anything here and the serious moments just felt flat.

You'd think given his usual approach to filmmaking, Meadows would be naturally suited to the mockumentary format, but it just doesn't work, especially with such a cartoonish character as Le Donk clashing with the low-key naturalism of all the non-professionals (and Olivia Colman, who is really good but not remotely believable as a woman who would go anywhere near a man like Donk). It's funny at times, but the good stuff is kind of overshadowed by the absurd plot and Considine's mugging.

Very funny and touching tale about two musician friends - one who has talent, and one who 's ego is big enough to eclipse it.

"Calm down Deidre Barlow" it's a subtler mockumentary than the Office (UK) and Spinal Tap and sweeter too.

Le Donk is a selfish, misguided buffoon, and fans of British comedy will note the similarities with the likes of Alan Partridge and David Brent. Considine takes to such a character with natural ease, though Meadows’ short mockumentary about him trying to hog his more talented friend’s limelight is ultimately too free of drama or conflict to ever register beyond complete superficiality.
