I started applying every single aspect of my life into Jean's character's obsession and all of it worked. I have a deeper understanding of both myself and my reality after watching this batshit insane film, and so can you!

Fucking hilarious; I can't believe how hard Dujardin leans into his role in this tale of midlife crisis and hubris. Between this and 'The House That Jack Built,' I'm quite enjoying this recent trope of The Bumbling Sociopath. And like Von Trier's work, 'Deerskin' similarly straddles the boundary between black comedy and horror and will undoubtedly be something you either Get or Don't Get; I don't think there is an in-between for Depieux's eclectic absurdist-grindhouse style.

Name another movie where the protagonist's objective is to eliminate all of the jackets in the world so that he can be the only one wearing a jacket, you can't do it. The ending is brilliant but does leave the film closer to an hour in length than a typical feature, just like his last movie. Ripping out a fan blade, sharpening it by dragging it along the highway, and using it as a sword must be one of the most inventive movie weapons ever.

Absurdly funny. Not for a single moment does the movie take itself seriously, yet it still manages to stay amazingly consistent both in terms of the underlying ideas and the world it's set in. Once again the journey is more important than the destination, and if you end up a deer... Well, you might meet the end of a deer as well.

The rigid and purposefully alien "comedy" mostly works in an amusing fashion, though sometimes it grates against the story and the characters' sensibilities. Only for those who can handle their films this upright in its self-reflexive stance, though there's plenty of rewarding moments that initially come across as hard to take.

This movie had me invested and made more sense than the new wonder woman movie we watched prior to it. It's about a jacket trying to rid the world of other jackets, by the way.

More straightforward than any of his other movies, Deerskin is a fun movie about a man going insane.

Well, it's certainly different! It's bizarre enough to keep you watching and as you get to know the character and his weird obsession, it kind of starts making sense in a 'sentient jacket luring you to do weird things' - way. I liked the abrubt ending, too. Anything slow burn would have not worked for me.

i don't precisely know how he does it but i start watching every dupieux film assuming that i will hate it and end up loving it. they are incredibly compelling and funny.

I am not the only one who thought it is mocking the audience (without being offensive), right?

Man thinks his jacket sucks, burns it in the toilet, buys new jacket (with a sick style), then makes a movie about destroying every other jacket. Brilliant!

Actually pretty funny and interestingly bizarre enough to keep you trying to figure out where the fuck this is really going. Second half way better than the first -- mostly because of the eerie, hilarious slasher material -- and Dujardin and Haenel really having fun in an amazing shot-to-shot basis. Wearing a jacket is not just a matter of style, but of existence -- even if you have to kill everyone wearing one just to feel unique, becoming a mockumentary filmmaker in the process.

Dupieux has clearly improved his craft. Gone are the masturbatory monologues about absurdity and the constant eye-rollingly lame fourth-wall-breaks. Instead, you have much of the same thematics whirring quietly under the hood. There's so much subtlety and even humility and it really makes for a very watchable piece of absurdism. It isn't particularly groundbreaking, but it's a legitimately engaging watch. And you gotta respect how he does what he does.

Dupieux returns to the meta-horror he crafted in Rubber, except with the lens on the creator rather than the audience. Just as quietly deranged, just as much fun.

An absurd yet palpably close experience of an attempt to fill life’s pot holes with purpose, at all costs.

Slight and deadpan - in the best possible sense.

I was fully on board, and had a lot of fun with it, but was left wanting more. Some laugh out loud dark comedy. The ending is abrupt and unfulfilling. But maybe that is the unique trick at play here. Just as things are ready to escalate one step further, cut to black.
