King Louis XI tries to unify France by all means fair or foul, which does not please his powerful rival Charles the Bold. It is against this troubled backdrop that the loves of the daughter of a wealthy bourgeois and the king's god-daughter Jeanne Fouquet and knight Robert Cottereau unfurl in spite of all the obstacles in their way. This French silent epic started slow and continued rather uneventful. Because of that naturally dragged quite a bit. Plus it was a bit difficult to figure out all the roles and political plays in the royal elite because I didn't have English subtitles for the title cards. But the last 3rd of the film was exceptional film making! A bloody wolf attack and a MASSIVE castle battle!!! Spectacular, intense and violent! And the imagery really picked up and captured it all fantastically!
