A young man gradually realises that the possibility of financial and sexual success depends on cutting ties with his powerful mother. Some good scenes, some unusual characterisation and an eye for momentarily impressive images combine to make this a moderately entertaining diversion by the son of Costa-Gavras.

I thought that this was quite good, especially considering it’s a Netflix production. It takes place in a similar lower-level gangster world as Guy Ritchie films, but it's less flamboyant and takes its time to map out the events and characters. Therefore It also felt longer than 90 mins, but I was never actually bored with it. Shifting the story to Spain for the 2nd part was still a welcome energy boost. Cassel was in a bit more elderly role and It was a joy to see Isabelle Adjani again.

Took a while for it to click with me but it did eventually. There's something really satisfying about Vincent Cassel watching videos about the Illuminati for half the movie. Aside from that it's a caper that doesn't do anything that special from a narrative standpoint, but it's a subgenre I enjoy. Gavras brought his music video experience to this and elevates the film with the inclusion of some pretty fitting music, showcasing the power that can be achieved by perfectly marrying music/visuals.

Spring Breakers by way of Guy Ritchie, but greater than the sum. Still another 'one-last-job' story, but the sleek veneer, colorful characters, and oddly sincere heart keep it vibrant and lively.

The use of soundtrack and little visual interludes show that Gavras started in music videos - the lackluster and halting storytelling that he should have stayed in it.
