Le mort qui tue

(Rating and review apply to entire series.) A predictable but still enjoyable excursion into the distant past of cinema. While not all sensibilities of the era have lasted, there is a certain suspense and uneasiness that is impressive even today.

Solid continuation of the Fantomas saga. Relies a bit too much on twists in the convoluted plot to keep things moving but they do work.

The third Fantômas film is at time as interesting and exciting as the previous installments but unlike the previous films its over 30 minutes longer and tends to drag a bit. Slower paced than the superior 2nd film and more sinister than the first film.

Fântomas #3. Ano de Centenário de André Bazin: Repassando os filmes citados em Qu'est-ce que le cinéma? Filme #20. Por ser o mais longo e a narrativa mais complexa da série acaba sendo também o menos dinâmico, o que necessariamente não o faz um filme menor, ainda é um grande thriller, com um grande personagem dos mais vilanescos.

Sadly very dull and drawn out. Like the other segments, it's a good plot that hasn't aged well due to terrible pacing. The ending is pretty damn good though.

Rating for all parts of series. This isn't quite as good as Les Vampires, but if you like one you'll probably like the other. A similar feel and a lot of similar ideas (mastermind criminal organizations, outrageous crimes, silly fun plots, some goofy fun set-pieces, etc.) The restoration I saw of this, from 2013, was astounding--it looked like true HD. Watch Les Vampires first and if you like that, give this a whirl.
