Strikes a good balance between satirical and emotional elements; I think some of the scenes with "the Unnameable" push into regrettable territory, particularly the segment which reveals a nefarious ring of homosexual villainy. The obvious inauthenticity of the sound overdubs for the musical performances was also distracting. The frequent use of Ozu-like straight-on shots during dialogues (rather than over-the-shoulder shots) was interesting.

Let down only by a couple unnecessary subplots in the first half, and an annoying performance by Denis Podalydès (the Unnameable). Other than that though it's a lovely film, with a few particularly stand-out moments (both suicide scenes, the final scene, when Sarah singing brings everyone to tears).

Green's little jabs at the academic types is good natured fun (I'm in the airhead Romantics camp myself, but do not resent anyone's differences). I've been aware of Green's good taste in music since the beginning, and I enjoyed having that come to center stage in this film.
