Le puits fantastique

This film is supposed to be seen as a witch exacting revenge on a stingy villager. But I see it as the story of a cruel horse owner who was punished (by a witch and her magical well) for mistreating his horse (played in this case by a person in a very shabby horse costume). I like to think that had this film existed in 1889 that on seeing it Nietzsche might have been cured of his mental breakdown.

Really fun Melies with a nice rising crescendo of energy and fantasticness before a pretty solid finale.

I bit more fun and interesting than a lot of his other trick films.
