A religious fanatic finds his entire life and philosophy turned upside-down as he falls in love with a girl and kills her in a jealous rage. His search is for peace of mind and a desire to justify the murder of the girl to himself. A religious fanatic kills his cheating girl on what he believes is commands from God... or the Devil. That takes this French film to crazy land. Jean-Louis Barrault really delivers a remarkable performance in a film which in periods is soaked in madness! The way Barrault sees the world compared to the people he speaks to is such an eye-opening observation. Such a shame the ending was so weak for this unique Irish play inspired French film was well on it's way to receiving cult status.
