Le silencieux

A one-of-a-kind cold-war spy thriller about a French Soviet spy who becomes a fugitive from the Russians after being compromised by the MI5. One or two hiccups aside, the pursuit and evasion are beautifully conceived; and it has the humanity that would completely escape movies like this in some decades to come, to be replaced by mechanical stylization. The incredible Lino Ventura leads, and the also incredible Lea Massari appears in a small role. Their eventual meeting is some colossal acting.
