Pixar this ain't. The story is beyond formulaic, the characters are stock, and the humor is mostly obnoxious. Only the actual dance scenes have any energy or creativity to them, but they don't make up for everything else. Easily skippable.

This film has lots of issues, from poor acting, inconsistent animation, odd tonal shifts, lack of detailed story, unlikable characters that change roles without explanation. There's a lot wrong but the actual dance numbers were well done and the film is relatively harmless. Its worth watching once but I don't think even kids will be wanting to have a repeat viewing.

Still, this is a fairy tale of sorts. It's not intended as a realistic cautionary tale. Rather, it's one that encourages youngsters--young girls, especially--to have the courage to pursue their dreams. And as long as parents are providing some wise boundaries and realistic counsel alongside them, it's the kind of story that can encourage them to consider what kind of leaps they, too, might make as they ponder the passions God has placed in their hearts.

I feel like this movie is just one rewrite (one that removes some of the dumber "here's an action scene for ADD kids" elements) and maybe a few million more bucks dumped into the sometimes 90s-esque animation away from being really good. The main core of the movie, the lead rising up through the elite dance school and all the Rocky/Karate Kid-esque dance training sequences and montages, are actually all quite well done.

Professionally made animation feature from France, but the formula is so by-the-book that it quickly becomes irrelevant besides being a simple time waster for the kids. Nice to look at, and that it can pass for a good time if one isn't too critical. I've seen plenty worse, but it's hardly anything original.

The film is very enjoyable in its presentation of the humane relationship between the orphan girl and her mentor (mentress?) with the warmth seeping through their interaction. However, the film drags at the side boyfriend storyline and the silliness of the action sequences + some inconsequential character motivations that weren't built upon either - but then again it's an animation film and I might be wanting too much from it. The animation quality is not perfect either. Still very enjoyable.

It kinda stutters out of the gate and I was getting ready for 90 minutes of boredom; but then it righted the ship. The dance scenes over all, the Celtic dance scene in Breton bar particularly, were very good. It is not a top-notch animation but at least it is different from Dreamworks/Disney World.

I think it tried a bit to be too adult for a kids movie and wasn't quite fun enough... but I enjoyed it.

The elements for a charming underdog movie are here, though it suffers from a bloated cast (three mentor figures that are all initially mean to the protagonist but who all turn out to be rooting for her….. one would’ve sufficed) and simplistic writing. My 7-yo was completely sold by this and she’s the target audience. So credit where credit is due.

Also Ballerina. This movie is awesome. 2 orphin kids a male and female escape an orphanage. This is about the female who goes to Paris to become the greatest Ballerina. She is discovered as a fraud & Battles this mean girl who has a mean mother. Sub plot she meets up with this guy in Paris that wants her and her friend the other kid who escapes with her is in love with her. I really loved this movie as they made you care for both kids here. 1 of the best movies I have seen.

Very simple and cute story. It plays by the beat of a fairy tale, so no twists or turns in the plot. But It sets out to do exactly what it needs to do. The action scenes are nicely done, the dance scenes are well done, the characters are interesting and their motivations are clear. Its a "safe" movie for sure, but absolutely nothing wrong with that.

It was alright. A cute, heart-warming story. But it was missing something to make it stand out. As it was, it felt a bit flat.
