Amy Adams stars as Anna, a woman whose scheme to wrangle her boyfriend into marriage by proposing to him on February 29th -- a day he cannot refuse her, according to Irish custom -- is jeopardized when weather threatens to cancel her trip to Dublin. Now Anna must convince a handsome but gruff Irish innkeeper (Matthew Goode) to take her across the country before the day slips away.

I have reasons to like Amy Adams. That provided this movie an extra 5pts. The jokes were excrutiating. If anything I learned that I have to get plug adapters when traveling to foreign countries. Besides that the only leaping I am doing is off a bridge after seeing this gargage. It ain't no Ned Devine.

Hey, remember IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT? Here's an idea, take the beats of that story, change the location, change the characters a little bit, and then sell it as something different. Then do that again and again a few times a year for the next hundred years. This is the latest iteration of that very predictable, very typical tale. It says nothing that hasn't been said thousands of times before; it just does it in a different way. Fine performances, though. A good airplane movie.

A patient, rolling film featuring a pleasantly wry performance from Matthew Goode. It doesn't break any new ground plotwise but it is set in Ireland, which is nice.

The culture clash rom-com mostly works well here due to Adams and Goode in the lead roles and the delightful Welsh countryside and accent.

I really wanted to like this movie more, because I love Amy Adams. And while she's good, the movie itself is pretty lackluster. The whole first half is devoid of both humor & romance, which isn't good for a romcom. The second half is significantly better, but not enough to make up for the extremely slow start.

Formulaic to the extreme with a clearly forced ending, but even if Amy Adams can't save it she does at least make it watchable and occasionally even enjoyable.

There's some bad stuff here, like the Irish tavern whose occupants look at Adams like she's some kind of different species of animal, or the scene where Adams causes Goode's car to roll backward into a lake (or whatever they call them in Ireland). Despite all that, you can't help but enjoy these two characters as they get to know each other. A good rental or a good date film.

I swear, just read my full review. This movie doesn't make any sense, and I hate it for it. Surely it doesn't empower women either.

Light, often silly, not very original even for a romantic-comedy, pretty much what I expected. I went, hoping against hope, and because I'm a fan of Amy Adams--but it kept reminding me of an exceptional talent being miscast in a bad movie as Russell Crowe was in "A Good Year". Also it looks like Miss Adams had partaken a little too freely of the edible props in her recent movie, "Julie and Julia", as well as it's tagline--passion, ambition, BUTTER.

I liked but didn't see the start. Adams is ripe as a juicy July peach. Good chemistry, lustrous hair, and verdant backgrounds. Tick tick tick.

Very entertaining movie! The script is predictable from the very beginning but it doesn't spoil the fun. Amy role is so cute. Recommended.

Quite cute, good acting and a fun script. Nothing overly memorable, and I did have a few issues with the believability of certain plot points, but it was an entertaining movie!

Another Hollywood romantic comedy that wants to be _It Happened One Night_, but which is nowhere nearly as good. It's really, really not funny

First the good things: the Irish countryside, and the music at the Irish wedding. Fuck, this is TERRIBLE. I spent the entire time wanting to stuff something in Adams' mouth so she would stop a) looking so smug, and b) talking. It's so bad it completely obliterated all memory of her previous good work--I had to look up her other movies to to remind myself that she can be a competent actress. It's so poorly written and directed that even Adam Scott (looking totally uncomfortable) was crap.

Mistake - When Declan is having his whiskey poured at the table with the Italian couple, his arms are crossed in front of him, but when the camera cuts to a wider shot, his right arm is now by his side. Camera cuts back to closeup and his arms are folded again.

Nothing special, but most rom-coms don't aim very high. There's an occasional clever outburst but this movie is far from clever. The best thing about this movie is the beautiful Irish countryside they travel through. There is a stepping in poop joke, an intimate moment interrupted by puke, and some slapstick mishaps at a wedding. Just try not to facepalm in front of your date and this movie won't be a regrettable experience.

I watched this mainly to see the Irish countryside, and it certainly doesn't disappoint in that regard. Adams is charming and Goode is decent, but this could have used some more humor.

I'll be honest, I'm sometimes lazy so I only watched this because it was easily accessible on Amazon Prime and I like Amy Adams. Her character is a complete snob though constantly insulting and acting annoyed with locals, and the rest of the film is silly in a dumb way.

Not the worst thing in the world, but not particularly enjoyable either. Girl meets surly Irish would be cook, they don't like each other, this means that they actually love each other, she ditches her boyfriend for him, blah, blah, blah. Goode and Adams are cute together, but not cute enough to overcome a trite script.

It's a standard formula, the predestined lovers butting heads till locking lips, with the standard ton of pop songs on the soundtrack, and it lives or dies entirely on the charms of its stars: Adams, whose charms are well known and on full display, and the manneristically elongated Goode (body by El Greco), whose charms are her match. She and he bring the mechanism precariously to life.

Points for Amy Adams being so hot. The movie has a pretty thin plot, the girl is so in love with her boyfriend she travels to Ireland in order to propose on leap year, but falls in love with a local before she can get to him. It all seems a little too scattered and frivolous, and so it comes off as unconvincing. I liked some of the scenery, none of the music, but there are a few cute moments. Though she is a red head, she plays a dumb blonde.

Leap year has good leads, with good chemistry in a forgettable story that seems more interested in clumsy antics than character depth. Some nice scenery of Ireland doesn't quite do justice to the real country and the population is reduced to a few stock stereotypes. No risks taken and a nice safe happy ending is pretty much what should be expected.

Romantic comedy about a woman who heads off to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on a leap day, obliging him to accept because of Irish tradition. The normally reliable Amy Adams makes a rare misstep in this lackluster romantic comedy.... Despite some nice turns at the end, the flick suffers from too many cheap laughs and zero spark between the stars.
