Further proof that Chia-Liang Liu makes the best kung fu movies.

The choreography more than keeps up with Shaw Bros.' high standards, but that only barely makes up for the confusing and desultory script and poor non-combat editing, with its poorly-introduced characters and abjectly jarring cuts.

I fell in love with Kara Hui watching this, and the variety of weapons seen in action here is a highlight, but the plot is barely coherent and uninteresting, and the fighting, while good, didn't wow me as in something like 8 Diagram Pole Fighter.

For all the hokey hocus pocus talk, the actual flashes&smoke&theatrics of the magic side are executed well to give extravagant elaborate setpieces that demand attention.ChiangLiangLiu was a veteran of action direction at this point&the extra effects thrown into the combat make every fight a standout event. Besides the effects, theres an abundant mix of vertical action (shimmying up between two walls high jumps, roof antics etc.) that provide a vibrant punch of flair

The story is all over the place like the script was thrown in a blender and then put back together, but the fight scenes are excellent, and that's mostly what this movie consists of. I almost think they made the non-action scenes as nondescript as possible so that the action scenes stick out more. There are many cool examples of special effects, acrobatics and martial arts on display, and I believe that that was the whole point of the movie, like a big exhibition.

Liu Chia Liang puts on a weapons fighting clinic. This film is a must for serious martial arts fans, an intense series of battles with an incredible variety of weapons.

Starts off pretty shaky, but ends up being legendary in title as well as content. Something for everyone here - great characters, action, drama, and comedy.

This movie was horrible and hard to keep track of. I spent the first 40 minutes thinking spiritual and magic fighters were one in the same. After casting aside that utterly annoying premise the last 40 minutes went back to the basis of Kung Fu films, and thankfully so. Unfortunately Gordon Liu can only do THIS much to save a dying film
