A luxury ski resort in Switzerland. 12-year-old Simon lives in the industrial valley below, with his jobless sister, Louise. Every day, he takes the ski-lift to the opulent ski world above, stealing equipment from the rich tourists to resell to the local kids back down. As he partners with a crooked British seasonal worker, Simon loses his boundaries, which affects the relationship with his sister. Confronted with a truth they had both been escaping, Simon seeks refuge up above. (Berlinale.de)

Quite remarkable that in a landscape full of immersing polarization, a young boy can take hold of the screen with a performance of overwhelming emotional complexity. A film in the tradition of Dardennes, analyzing the minute details of feudal transactions and the tensions which arise from them. Meier creates something which is both sterile and warm, a film in beautiful flux.

This is marvelous in its simplicity and emotional power. Meier stripped from all make-up but retained the themes touched upon on 'Home'. She's a director with a vision to be reckoned with.

A character drama well worth seeing. Ursula Meier watches the likes of the Dardenne Brothers and it shows. In her portrait of Simon (12) and Louise (17), many naturalistic scenes develop the characters and story hand-in-hand. Their hard, unprivileged lives contrast starkly with the rich ski guests they prey upon, showing a fiercely self-sufficient nature which is also morally corrupt and fragile. These are characters you won't forget, especially when Simon lures younger boys into his racket.

nisan 12, ist film fest & L'enfant D'en Haut, yonetmenin ilk filmi olan 'Home'dan daha iyi bir film. Daha derli toplu, daha akici bir is. L'enfant D'en Haut, belki bir basyapit degil ancak ice isleyen, guzel anlatilmis, karakterleri basarili kurulmus, metaforuna bagliligi ile hikayesini gelistiren & karakterleri ile de metaforunu zenginlestiren bir film. Ama 'bu film nasil daha etkili bir film olurdu?' diye dusunuyorum. Belki kesmeler daha az kullanilabilirdi.
