Les Lyonnais

This was one of my favorite French crime movies, the story spans several decades and the back and forth between flashbacks and the current events are perfectly handled. The camaraderie within the Momon's gang is akin to the level of Sopranos in its genuine nature and it carries all the emotions in the movie I hope that tI look half as good as Lanvin at that age; he just oozes charisma effortlessly. I loved the flashback disco scenes also; they must have been fun to shoot.

French Godfather with different story approach. It's a decent movie but it lacks soul to be really good. C'est OK mais c'est non un classic!

It was as if someone had thrown together a lot of scenes from movies like The Godfather, Reservoir Dogs, Heat and Snatch and dubbed them in French.

Les Lyonnais is a lopsided affair, when the story rolls back to 70s, it shines, becoming a visceral crime thriller with a killer soundtrack. Unfortunately when it rolls forward to present day, it dissolves into one of the jaded crime dramas du jour. On a side note, Lanvin is pretty cool as a bad ass motherfucker.
