A small sample of what was to come. This film really foreshadows Truffaut's affinity for youthful hopeless romance, with a light touch of tragedy. It is a little amateurish, with some sloppy but very playful camera and editing techniques. Really a joy to watch.

Nostalgic look at childhood shenanigans that portends to what Truffaut would do with his features. Really nice shots and genuine sentimentality make this a pleasing little experience.

Does a good job conveying youth, innocence and whimsy but that does make any of the characters endearing or even interesting.

Not much to it--but still, Truffaut's first.

A fine early short from Truffaut, kind of a preamble to The 400 Blows. It has a breezy feel to it, with a handful of playful editing tricks and some pleasant camera movement on the bicycle scenes.

The bike and tennis stuff was great. I wanted to punt the kids though.

Not as hollow as it could be, but there's not much digest either.

Truffaut's second short feature captures a bit of his talent for portraying children that's in full effect in his next film "The 400 Blows". This is a lot lighter in tone, even though it has a fairly melancholy ending.

A watchable short debut from François Truffaut, who was to become one of France's most overrated directors of all time. The voice-over narration is grating, and as a short movie about childhood, it is lifeless when compared to Rozier's Rentrée des Classes
