It would be fair and easy to dismiss this as nothing more than Peyrefitte's own hebephilic fantasy masqueraded as a cute semi-taboo homosexual love affair between two schoolboys. What you get is a hint of an endearing love story that is clearly written and carried out from an older man's perspective rather than that of the upperclassman. It's dishonest. It comes close, but the development of the relationship is somewhat weak and superficial and doesn't really feel all that special at all.

A beautifully poignant film. Didier Haudepin turns in a wonderful and (rightfully) scene-stealing performance, which is bound to first melt, and then break, the heart of even the tiniest bit emotionally susceptible audience member.
