Nice country folk clash with mean country folk (the latter a kind of milder version of the Texas Chainsaw family). My own view is that territory folk should all be pals. Nothing very ambitious is being attempted here, but some scenes are reasonably effective. Manville's character is unconvincing, and her entrance into the story serves only to make the whole thing seem a bit silly.

This seems a little slow at the start (at first I wondered what the story was) but it certainly packs a punch by the end. It's a dark (literally and thematically speaking) watch and ocassionally its gritty. Once the plot picks up pace, there's quite an effective sense of threat felt. The cast give decent performances and while perhaps the themes covered aren't entirely original, its a pretty memorable film I thought, so I'd say its worth a watch.

Evli çiftimiz, gelini ve oğluyla aynı evi paylaşır. Oğlu ölünce, küçük torununa bakmaktadır. Gelin evlenince, torun uzaklaşır. Gelin ve torun, şiddet görmektedir. Torununu tekrar kavuşmak isteyecektir. Diane Lane ve Kevin Costner'ın harika 1 çift olduğu film, evlat acısı konusunu işliyor. İyi 1 yol filmi olmasına karşın, şiddete karşı gelmesiyle de başarılı. Filmin sonunda, intikam. Lesley Manville vs. Diane Lane. Koca katili.

A somewhat ridiculous movie held up by its great cast. Like many (most) Neo-westerns the backstory is just enough to show some semblance of motivation for thin character archetypes to do their thing. Luckily these actors do their thing well, and the directing is handled nice and simple which works perfectly for this.

In my top five for 2020. Two veteran actors lead this excellent crime drama. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play one of the most genuine and believable on screen couples I've ever seen.

Casting the prototypical "nice white folks" works when they find themselves in a stressful situation. The tension is fairly well done as each character seems quite out of their league when faced with bad people. The psychological toll that loosing something that cannot be replaced often comes with desperation and poor choices. This is a good slice-of-life film.

This thriller is not for the faint of the heart. It will make you uncomfortable and is quite disturbing. So much tension. Whew!

Bleak drama does a fairly respectable job of disguising the pulpy nature of its source material, but this story of grief/loss and violence is perhaps a little too familiar and simplistic at times with dialogue that is occasionally clumsy and overly explicit. Lane and Costner do very fine work though, and Bezucha builds tension admirably, resulting in a few quasi-explosive moments. The period has also been tastefully recreated without obnoxious signposting.

Eastwoodian, as sober as emotionally resonant, of course, but also pretty unique in its own way of building some sort of hillbilly elegy, as Matt Lynch has said, combined with road movie and revenge forged in grief, despair and, well, love. Lane and Costner's acting here is just out of this world.

This is not what I expected. In a good way. Plus, you get Dodd from Fargo!

It does an effective job tugging at heartstrings. The performances are good, and the sparse suspense hits hard. But there are contrivances, odd little details, and the plot moves at a snails pace at times.

This might be the saddest movie I've ever seen. A great drama that I will not be rewatching.

Really liked it. Costner and Lane were a believable couple with different acting styles; Costner is that of a retired cop who's been there done that, does what he needs to do; Lane has that older person way of dealing with things too where she certainly cries and goes through shit but she doesn't overact and deals. Aside from that, there are some insanely tense parts and this was hard to watch emotionally. What should have been gratifying was still difficult because of the loss.

This has a few high tension moments to raise your pulse rate. Costner was almost too reserved for much of it. They fought with a batshit crazy family while trying to rescue their grandson from a life of abuse, but things didn't go very well. The bittersweet ending seemed realistic but was not entirely satisfying. Worthwhile.
