Let's be clear: If 'Let the Right One In' didn't exist, this would be a good movie - but it does. I'm against remakes which don't either improve considerably upon its predecessor or reuse the original material for something new. Reeves does neither here. There are strong scenes but mostly he reshoots the same scenes, to lesser effect. Bottom-line: It's watchable, yet frustratingly familiar. And, obviously, you shouldn't watch this version first.

It's idiotic on principle to make the exact same movie (sans subtitles) over again. "Remake" is misleading because it gives the impression that some dimension is added. This is just karaoke.

Let the Right One In fans can rest easy - this is in no way a mockery of the original. The story, mood, atmosphere, and key moments are entirely intact. In fact, it's so slavishly faithful that you'll kind of question why it needs to exist. Think less The Departed, more Gus Vant Sant's Psycho. Still, it's very well-made, and you'd be doing a favor if you showed it to a Twilight fan to let them see what a real vampire movie is.

It's Let The Right One In. I'm iffy on giving such a thing such a high rating because it doesn't do much different, but at the same time, more people will be open to see this. If you've seen the original you don't have much of a reason to see it, but at the same time, it IS a great movie. Not as good, but still definitely worth your time.

It nearly captures the same mood as the original but it's unfortunately far less subtle and therefore less powerful. Much of the problem rests with the CGI - specifically the decision to make Abby's vampiric traits more pronounced and typical of American horror films. The intrusive score only adds to the problem. The direction and acting are passable but not as effective as they were in the original. Completely unnecessary.

It wasn't the travesty that I expected. It by no means surpasses the 'Let The Right One In' but it did a far better job with the material than I expected it to. I can't speak on which was a more faithful adaptation of the novel, but I can say that where there were departures from the Swedish version, I thought they were changes for the worse. The actors were good, it captured the same tone and feel, but overall it just doesn't compare favorably.

The acting and photography will go down as the film's strong suit yet much of the original's subtlety has dissolved and in the end remains a woefully unnecessary remake. Producer Simon Oakes: "The story was so great, so beautiful, that it should be seen by a bigger audience." (shuuuut up) / Matt Reeves decided to drop "the emasculated boy" story line out of the American remake to make it more accessible to a public American audience... In other words, Americans are uneducated, uncultured morons.

Just No. Okay, it's not terrible but I have such contempt for what it's doing. A thoroughly gratuitous remake that not only fails to recreate what made the original interesting but also cheapens it. Kinda works when it's directly copying the original but lacks all the tender and harrowing and tragic nuances that made the story so special. Everything it adds is dumb or nonsensical or pointless or redundant. Neither of the leads are convincing let alone compelling. I really suffered through this.

For one reason or another, remakes of superb films often have about the competence of Ke$ha covering the Rolling Stones. Fortunately, Let Me In exceeds in predecessor in almost all respects. Grittier, more atmospheric, and better-filmed, Let Me In improves upon the structure and storyboarding of Let the Right One In while still redoubling the stylistic characteristics. Backed by a dark, menacing score, the suspenseful moments of Let Me In bring intensity where the original lacked. Superb.

While it's great that this remake loses nothing in the translation (there r no concessions 2 the mainstream here: the chilling atmosphere, the focus on the darker aspects of humanity & startling imagery r fully intact) it brings nothing new 2 the table either. Although the cinematography is stunning, it's unlikely anyone who's already seen the original won't feel watching this is as boring & pointless an exercise as the Psycho remake. But add 30 points if u never saw this its first time around.

Let the Right One In is easily in my top 10 films, but the American remake isn't bad. It helps quite a bit if you've read the book and seen the Swedish film. Bonus points going to the car wreck scene. All I see this film trying to do is reach a wider audience, because let's face it: vampire culture/art has been completely ruined by Twilight. By the way, Richard Jenkins played the pedo almost too well...

While watching this movie I tried really hard not to compare this to the original film and I think I did a decent job of that. My biggest complaint that I had with the movie was the look, feel, direction, and pacing of the film which boils down to the fact that I have decided that I am not a fan of Matt Reeves' style, not in this movie or in his other films. Aside, from that I felt that some of the acting especially from the child actors was pretty bad. Overall this was a passable film.

Though I don't remember much of the original and I was never a big fan of it, I still gathered that this remake was quite faithful. I seem to prefer this one, as I don't remember the original drawing any tears and I simply prefer Chlomo in the role who is a fantastic actress. Though it's the same length, it also seemed to drag a lot less.

Essentially the same movie, but in the best ways possible. It's an American re-make of a foreign movie, that DOESN'T screw the pooch, that maintains much of the grittiness and atmosphere of the original. Chloe Grace-Moretz is carving out a nice little niche for herself in somewhat off-beat, edgy roles which belie her young age. If you've been fortunate enough to see the original, there might be little reason to see this (other than Grace-Moretz's performance), but if not, it's a definite view.

It's about as good as could be expected from a wholly unnecessary remake. It's VERY similar to Let the Right One In, and the only changes that were made were seemingly just a few parts of Americanizing the original screenplay. It is in no way a bastardization of the novel or original movie. The acting was good (especially Morentz and Jenkins) and there were some really great moments of cinematography. I can't help but feel the impact was lessened because of how close it was made to the original.

Matt Reeves must have perceived the original film's biggest flaw to be its sense of subtlety, as he's removed all trace of it. The only advantage this tepid remake has over the original is a lack of cat puppets.

Easily my favorite vampire movie. Features some of the best child acting I've seen, in addition to getting some genuinely creepy moments, classic horror tension, and cringing bloody violence. My only complaint is of the weird, distracting inserts to establish itself as a period piece (I'll take The Vapors, you can keep Reagan).

Not as crass and over the top as most American remakes of foreign films are, this version still suffers in every way compared to the original, losing most of its subtlety and all of its complexity. The manipulative, intrusive score is the film's biggest downfall, and unlike the original, nothing in this version is particularly beautiful or awe-inspiring.

A remake that does nothing new... Most scenes are anoyingly familiar and even though they have tried to arrange the narrative diffenrently in the beginning it doesnt change the fact that Let the Right One In is a much better film than this if you can even begin to compare. But if you are to cool to watch a visual masterpiece of a swedish vampire movie with children, watch this one instead, cause its still decent...

I might sound like a fanboy, but most directors need to take lessons from Matt Reeves on how to direct a movie. This guy is the real deal. His shot setup, editing and complementing sound and music has only one purpose: to show and not tell. There are ingeniously composed angles and movements but they are not trick shots to suck the director's playbook dry or serve to stroke the ego of the technically gifted. Reeves' strength is not restraint alone, it is also knowing when to let loose

I thought this actually turned out pretty good. This is what vampire films should be like. Raw, violent and aggressive, but with room for sweetness, sentimentality and exploration of humanity. Chloe Moretz is one of the best actresses of her age. Kodi Smit-McPhee was also great and the chemistry between them was very evident. It's a relatable and engrossing story with perfectly-muted colours and cinematography. I'd recommend either or both the original and remake.

The story is more or less the same as the original, and so is the general feel of the film. The acting is still quite good, with big props going to Chloe Moretz as Abby. The problems come mostly from the way the film was put together. The CGI used looked fake for the most part, and took away from the atmosphere of the film, while the events of the story didn't really feel connected. Still, it's worth watching, especially if you aren't able to find the original.

I never thought I'd say this but I found this Americanized remake to be a little bit better than the original. It's unfair I know. This film most probably wouldn't be this good had it not been patterned after the original. But against better judgment, I just can't help but like this more. Matt Reeves seemed to have made it his own. This may lack the edginess of the Swedish film but it improves upon the original in terms of emotional relatability and suspense.

It is a good film, don't take me wrong. However, you must ask: what does it add to the swedish 2008 version? It's not bad, but it's not better than the original. I even found it a "bit" boring, but maybe because I knew the story already. You can feel the "need" of adding some scenes just to please certain audiences, same happening with certain explanations which were simply left to the viewer to assume in the original. Some scenes were even comedic, even if that was not the purpose.

Well, if you haven't seen the original, it's pretty well done. The truth is that the story *is* brilliant. But comparing two different versions, this latter one is just a fade shadow of the first one. Actors were good, many scenes were good, but the director could not reach the level of nuances of the original. And there was absolutely nothing to tell there was reason why this remake should be done.

There are a lot of vampire movies out there. Sparkly vampires, vampires that get immolated by the sun and then there are little 12 year old vampires in a movie like this. I actually got to see a new type of vampire lore in this movie. It might not be new in general but it was new to me. If a vampire is not invited in but walks in anyway it starts bleeding to death. That is pretty cool. Chloe Moretz was awesome in this. She is quite the talented young actress. This is more of a drama than horror.

It copies enough from the original that it is in fact quite good. However, it loses a bit of the subtlety and beauty that Let The Right One In managed to capture, and can't live up entirely to its inspiration. The first is still the one to watch. But if you can't stand subtitles, or only have access to this version, you would not go wrong at all watching Matt Reeves' remake, which similarly creates a dark aesthetic and a wonderful horror atmosphere.

I knew from the start that Let Me In is a remake, but this is literally scene by scene, almost verbatim, the exact same movie. I already have a hard time swallowing remakes to begin with, but I can understand sometimes when the movie has been outdated and is need of a remake by the right director, but this came out only 2 years after the original. There is absolutely no need for a remake that soon, unless for two reasons, to add more to the story, or simply because people hate reading subtitles

This is a film leaning on creepy nudging, built entirely on the performances of two very capable young actors. It is very similar to the original, which begs the question, why even remake it? It was about equally as good. The scene in where the 'protector' guy is trapped in the car with two guys was really well done. I thought some of the gore was unnecessary, specifically the whole acid thing. The bullies were a bit one dimensional. They seemed to pick on him just 'because'. It ended on sort of a happy / bleak note, depending on how you look at it. Everything looks 'good', and it's obvious the director tried to achieve the 'perfection' of the original. The question remains: why would you want to do that? Largely fine remake with some absolutely lovely performances, but it whiffs big on two areas: 1) the removal of the homosexual subtext (the vampire girlfriend no longer a castrato!) and 2) Owen's added complicity really saps the tragedy from his fate. I like it kinda, but it just lacks its predecessor's power and subtlety (Eat one now, save one for later?). Still, I appreciate it antes up the brutality (less so the CGI & score) and it's surprisingly good at evoking a specific time and place.

Top badass moment? If you’re a pervy kid with a telescope and no friends, it’s always a good idea to have a girlfriend who's also a vampire. This is a decent movie, but I just couldn’t really get into it. It just felt too disjointed, although that may have had something to do with the bottle of limoncello I was drinking. Also, schools in New Mexico have really bad teacher to pupil ratios; one teacher for all those kids on the ice? 2 (I think) decapitations, 1 chainsaw and 1 cat (I think).

I thought this was almost as good as the original. It sported some really impressive cinematography and camera work, but instead of playing like just another adaptation of the book, it plays like an adaptation of the other movie. More accessible than it's predecessor, for this American anyway, it is still really not possible to top the first adaptation of "Let the Right One In." Whether she is Abby or Hit Girl, Chloe Moretz is a star. Smit-McPhee is also pretty good. Im not sure how I feel about the CGI moments. I sort of think that it adds to the period vibe of the movie. As far as the direction goes, Reeves feeds us a little more, at the expense of Alfredson's level of nuance- Reeves still uses a delicate hand.
