Truly original. Perfectly balanced. The mix of vampire horror and a coming-of-age story of a bullied boy proves very potent because supernatural happenings to Oskar seem not that much more violent and weird than the everyday life of growing up. The kids are as great as the cinematography is brilliant. A wonderful surprise and the best film of 2008.

Although receiving accolades for an understated depiction of an off-kilter pubescent romance, this movie is great for how cannily it exploits its audience. Consider how this film's van Helsing is the closest it comes to a villain, how the slaughter of three kids is not only the most impressively choreographed piece but effectively cheered for, how the superficially romantic ending turns troubling upon the realization that the hero is doomed to assume the fate of his new love's previous guardian.

A slow, gently constructed nefarious yet extremely eerie and subtle romance powerhouse with a fresh, unique spin on the almost defunct vampire genre with great performances and uncanny chemistry in the relationship between Oskar and the fanged-freak Eli. Let the Right One In has achieved success in critical regions most horror films have left untouched for many long years. It may not feel completely whole, but it's a LOT better than what we got with Twilight. One of the best movies of 2008.

Incredibly atmospheric, at the same time capturing the awkwardness of growing up, and creating tension that threatens to boil over into violence. Wonderfully explores isolation and the need for companionship in spite of the dangers it brings, both human and supernatural. Great acting, directing, and cinematography. Not your average vampire film.

It finds humanity in a genre not often defined by it and is backed by a palpable atmosphere that made it impossible to turn away. The relationship between Oskar and Eli comes to a standstill after a while, and most of her actions may seem repetitive, but the last 10 minutes of this film made me forget all about that, an ending that's maybe predictable but that will take its place in every filmlover's mind. 'Let the Right One In' is a near-masterpiece, and so far my favorite film of 2008.

Fantastic. A vampire movie that's subtle and understated, and seemingly much more honest about the subject than the glamorized versions we're used to seeing. The acting and story hit a wonderful balance between sweetly romantic and horrifying and depressing. There's an honesty to the awkward coming of age and lack of sexuality. The still somberness of the camera and setting add a lot to the mood as well. There's a lot of ambiguous plot points here, but I think they just make it better.

Who would have guessed that one of the best romance films of the new millennium would be the story of a 12 year-old Swedish boy and his orphaned, vampiric girlfriend? In spite of some shocking violence, this is an incredibly sweet and tender film. Skip Twilight and take your kids to see Let the Right One In.

Whatever your expectations going into this vampiric horror-love story, you'll be surprised. Incredible acting and directing, and the way they handle traditional vampire lore is interesting. Unique, very deep, and nuanced. Great film. Consider the shots that bookend the story, and the recurrent imagery of looking in through glass boundaries.

Certainly one of the better vampire films that have come out. I didn't find it as impressive as others apparently but it's still worth watching if you're looking for vampire films that don't involve sparkly teenage dreamboats. I really enjoyed the ending, it was wonderfully bittersweet.

A muted, crisp little vampire tale that subverts our expectations even as we seek to redraw them. A delicate love story more akin to a grooming. The building of self-confidence that will lead to eventual subservience. Every small triumph a pending tragedy. Oh, and it should be passed into law that all future scenes of 'unsolicited blood-letting' must be served on a blanket of snow.

Avoided this one for awhile cause vampires really aren't my thing so this was a pleasant surprise. I love the mood and for such a low budget (~4 mil) the effects were really well done and everything seemed to be choreographed very well. The cinematographer was exceptional and added a lot to this film. The Twilight comparisons on here seem lazy, just cause they have vampires in them doesn't mean they have anything to do with one another.

This isn't heartwarming, nor should it be. By painting over the blood with the totally unrealistic perspectives of a 12-year-old in love, the film managed to completely erase any semblance of morality in its world. The warm musical score in the final scene betrayed the inevitability of further death. A truly cold film. Isolated, brutal, indifferent, and callous.

I'm not sure I've seen any proper "vampire movies" prior to this, so for all I know this film could be one big vampire cliché-fest. But I thought it was a really unusual, quite unsettling, and very atmospheric film. The penultimate scene in the pool is something really special.

Subtle and atmospheric, this is easily the best vampire movie I've ever seen. Beautiful cinematography and some great child acting. It's barely even a horror film really, though it does play with elements of the genre. The school kids are scarier than the vampire. I watched the last 10mins with my hand over my mouth and couldn't remove it until the credits had rolled. The story is a bit unfocused in parts, but I think that makes it feel more real. Some great scenes. Can't wait to watch it again.

Great genre bender. Alfredson masterfully plays with the traditional narrative conventions of the classic horror film. The generic content is here, but the narrative is different, underplaying the suspense and chock elements. This gives room for great character development (something that horror every once in a while has it's trouble with). Beautiful cinematography and sublime acting from the two leads make this on of the finest films in recent years.

Superficially, this seems to be a story of friendship and love between two loner children, until you realise how cyclical the film actually is and it becomes even darker (and better). Not to say it isn't dark already; the gorgeous cinematography and subdued story make every moment of violence extra uncomfortable, and the swimming pool scene is the big gut-punch to finish it all off. The most refreshing vampire story in a long time.

Kind of a perfect film. No flashbacks, no narration. It just cuts straight to the bone. Not a detail is wasted. It also happens to be a very intelligent investigation into the power dynamic between a lonely boy and an immortal vampire introducing a moral dimension that is conspicuosly absent in the Twilight films.

One of the most uncompromising and true-to-life fantasy stories. Simple but brilliantly executed throughout. Intimately depicts the alienation of a young boy and a darkness he attracts. It's clear that the evil in the story is not found inside any single character but rather in the social structure they create, which causes the protagonist to seek out something perilous. The vampire therefore exists as a natural shadow to our everyday relationships.

Gothic in its palpable gloom, this takes the vampire myth & carves it into a realistic world that's far bleaker than any Transylvania.Deceptively simple but vividly realized by brilliant direction, there's art-house pacing that only works for it since the lulling effect guarantees creepy surprises.Never overdoing it, he doles out nightmare images carefully 4 maximum impact. Alfredson captures the depressing view of a gritty Swedish suburb in the darkest time of the year and tells a beautiful story of two lonely souls seeking human contact in each other. The film is mesmerizing to watch and the final climax shows the director's sense of style. Instead of spraying the whole canvas red for two hours, he restrains himself and thus increases the power of the bits with gore.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, for FINALLY putting a fucking semi-realistic vampire in a movie, as Eli's character definitely punches Edward Cullen in the balls. At times, I legitimately forgot I was watching a movie, which is something I'm usually always quite aware of. A hauntingly beautiful love story, and something of a contentious one, as many may not understand how Oskar could honestly look past the fact that, hey, his "girlfriend" is a vampire. I hope Stephanie Meyer was taking notes.

With fantastic acting matched with a dismal and subtle way of telling the story, there isn't a moment in this film where you want to look away or even realize that you're watching a movie at all. It combines the best from vampires, swedish films and superb child-acting. The two front-figures come up with maybe the best children's performances ever. In general, it's superb in every way. It's eery, it's extremely beautiful, and the story is well told, original and very intense. The swedish top-humor comes to the surface at times, the irony that must come when you treat vampires as a hypothetically realistic thing. Whatever. From the silent opening, thinking that the operator must have forgot to switch on the audio, only to realize it to be the sound of snow falling when silence is broken, to the gory climax in the swimming hall, this movie had me all the way. I would hesitate to call this a vampire film, but more a pubescent love story with a horror backdrop. A taught story that lets the hemoglobin fill up in unexpected but inevitable ways. 1980's Sweden as a setting makes for a lot of pictorial interest in the snowy square of apartments, parks, and the school where the action is set in. The ending is well calculated: could be just as forlorn and moody as the rest of the film, but can be easily interpreted to satisfy a Hollywood audience's preference for a happily-ever-after.

Restrained, lyrical, and unflinchingly bleak, with great performances from the two leads (even if the girl's voice was dubbed - totally believably, by the way). I thought the B-plot with the adults was handled a little haphazardly, and some ends aren't so much left hanging as much as just ignored, but this is a chilling, visionary, refreshingly unique take on the horror genre. Beautiful, a work of art. If you're a real film fan you have to see this movie to appreciate it. The cinematography and score are just mesmerizing. One of the best to come out of Europe this decade.

A vampire film unlike any other. Heartfelt, disturbing and VERY well written. My fantasy is for movie fans to skip Twilight and watch Let the Right One in. This is the type of film that stays with you long after the credits start rolling.
