Actually a notch up from Lethal Weapon 3 (though I will admit that about halfway through I was regretting putting this one in immediately after - four hours of Lethal Weapon was a bit too much). Jet Li livens this shit up big time. Some fun bits. Though it does feel kind of by the numbers, and any edge the Riggs character had in the original film is completely gone.

The chance pairing in '87 has somehow led to one big happy family of trigger-happy archetypes on a haywire seesaw between overblown ultraviolence and screwball comedy broadstrokes. It matters little that the movie is replete with absurd interludes and wildly fluctuating levels of anarchy, because its heroes are exceptionally resilient and likable.

A bit better than the third movie, but still really goofy even by the franchise's own standards. Still, four watchable movies is a nice run. Could've used more Jet Li.

The template is so well-established at this point that you have to assume that the screenwriters are purposefully retreading the same plot. Riggs and Murtaugh inadvertantly stumble upon some sort of major conspiracy. Intermittent action sequences, tied together by hit-or-miss comedic scenes, follow. There's plenty of melodrama. Not bad for what it is, but the formula is starting to wear thin. The cast does well enough, but Russo is underused.

Completely boring plot, but this one has great action, including one of the best car chases ever filmed. It also supplies a proper ending for 11 years of Riggs, Murtaugh, and the entire "Lethal Weapon family."

Seen: 3+. Being born in 1985, this was my first introduction into the Lethal Weapon series, and I still haven't seen 2 or 3. There is fun to be had here, memorable scenes (flied lice you plick), and I definitely liked it as a teenager. But deep down I know it's nothing special.

Honestly, LW4 is not only unrealistic but, in some instances, straight-up daft. It's also unrepentantly old-school, and because of that not all of it has aged gracefully. The makers being under the impression it's still the '80s does have its bright side though, which is the one prevailing here. The final LW sequel is action-packed and (mostly) genuinely funny. The plot might be haphazard but that's not the case with the action setpieces or the jokes. Mission accomplished. With reckless abandon.

Fans who still enjoyed the adherence to comedic formula the last time should love this, but even those who didn't should find this an improvement. Unlike part 3 there are 2 stand-out action scenes here: 1 on the freeway & a great 2-vs-1 final fight. Even Pesci gets 1 shocking brief reprieve from his schtick. The rest of the time it's interesting to see how simultaneously "woke" this series was (Glover's a 1-man sanctuary city this time) while always trafficking in comedy PC types would despise.

Lethal Weapon 4 is a strong improvement on the previous film. Mostly because of the additions of Chris Rock and Jet Li. The action is great as always and Mel Gibson gets a chance to end his characters arc on a high note this time around.

A bit too many characters to juggle and too much backstory you have to know. However, if that isn't a hurdle this is a good edition to the series.

Lethal Weapon 4 is the low point in the series. This movie is a perfect example of 90's excess. It tried to be way more over the top than it needed to be. I enjoyed the Lethal Weapon movies because they are movies about cops taking down bad guys. Sure. There has always been explosions and special effects but I think this movie took it too far. Jet Li was the best addition to this movie. I liked the asian influence too. Chris Rock doesn't fit in this movie. He is a characature of himself.

A heap better than the third and a solid finish for the series. Story works fairly well and the plot conveniences are tied up. It's good to see the families feature heavily again and Danny Glover looks great for his age. Stunts and action are pretty good. Chris Rock is not really very funny, and he is perhaps the only major blemish.

Detective Riggs (Mel Gibson) tries to settle down with his pregnant girlfriend, Lorna (Rene Russo), while his partner, Murtaugh (Danny Glover), comes to grips with the marriage of his pregnant daughter, Rianne (Traci Wolfe), to fellow cop Butters (Chris Rock). But they find themselves and their families targeted by Chinese mobsters, led by Wah Sing Ku (Jet Li). Riggs, Murtaugh, Butters and private eye Getz (Joe Pesci) decide to go on the offensive before the gangsters get to their loved ones.

The last and weakest installment in the franchise. Gibson and Glover are still adorably charismatic, yet the aging and underwhelming tone really drags the first film down even more. Also Chris Rock was annoying. A pretty terrible way to end a franchise.

Lethal Weapon 4 is the worst movie in the series by a rather astounding amount. There's very little to like here. We've seen all the action before, most of the dialogue seems unnatural and scripted, there are no pauses for characters to develop or even say something that isn't directly related to plot progression or cheap humor, and it's all overlong and dull. It's actually difficult to stay awake while Lethal Weapon 4 plays.

There are plenty of dimensions to this film to be harshly criticized, but none could so perfectly embody the fatuousness of a third sequel (to ANY franchise, really) than the decision to exorcise Riggs of his glorious mane. Watch as these aging stars ham their way through failed comedy bit after failed comedy bit, and then force Jet Li to fight Danny Glover. I don't know if I've ever seen a movie so transparently resemble a paycheck as much as this one.

Lethal Weapon 4 is the last and probably weakest film in the series. This is by no means a bad film though. The charm of the original is still glowing and Gibson & Glover are as enjoyable and loveable as ever. I wasn't impressed with the absence of Gibson's mullet though. Jet Li is a fun addition action wise although his performance is forgettable. Chris Rock is painfully annoying though and the novelty of Pesci is waring thin. I'm a big fan of the Lethal Weapon series but 4 is probably enough.

A sequel that really has no point to it. Jet Li is also completely wasted in a bit villain role. Even worse they inserted a bit of a "yellow peril" plot into the film. It's an end that dies with a whimper and not a bang to the rather weak Lethal Weapon series.

The final film in the franchise tries to end things on a positive note, but just doesn't quite stick the landing. This is an enjoyable close to the series. Pesci is always grand and has wonderful chemistry with Rock. I've thought this series kind of ignores the villains throughout all four films, or didn't develop them enough (the biggest case being #3), but Li's character is that old-fashioned delightful villain the audience fears. Bravo!
