Classic.

I thought that the story was pretty stupid and most of the pacing felt off. However William Powell was a joy to watch and chews up the scenery.

One of the best feel good family movies of all times. Watch this with no fear of anything except wholesome laughs for the whole family to enjoy.

Amusing, but the direction and performances are a little too obvious. Dunne and Taylor elevate the whole thing just a little.

Score based on distant memory.

There were good actual movies made around the same time that hold up today. I suppose if you wanted a silly outdated film about a foppish family, this is for you?

Quaint slice-of-life movie that is frozen in time. I laughed a lot at Powell's obtuse patriarch and Dunne's scheming wife as they both tried to run the household (in this world, and perhaps the next!). It reminded me of the later Charlie Brown specials: these not-quite-connected anecdotes have been mashed into a full-length movie (that runs a little long with incidents that test one's patience). If you can overlook the "traditional" family setup, you'll see this film does have heart.

Delightful, farcical and pointless Michael Curtiz creation where William Powell tries his hardest to be the head of the family. Feels more like a extended sitcom than something you'd go to the cinema for a greater experience. They decided to splash out cash for color too, which shows someone had confidence in this. Even got 4 Oscar nods, but no wins.
