Eddie Murphy is no longer funny. Martin Lawrence was never funny.

Slow and boring. I really can't stand Martin Lawrence either, the totally unwatchable fuckwit. Saying that this film is strangely compelling, in a perhaps slightly unsettling way. "Unsettling" in the sence of "why am I watching this, and why do I need to know the ending?" It actually has some very pretty scenes too!

Boring. Not the boring that goes on in 'The Core' or 'Armageddon', err, wait, bad examples, anyway, the one where you have to cut yourself to stay awake, that kind of boring.

Despite some funny moments, if not seen as a comedy, it is good to pass the time.

If saying "motherfucker" is funny, then this film gets 21,991 motherfuckers out of 10. Bland.

Hit-and-miss that surprisingly achieves it's good moments through flashes of drama amid the rather medocre comedy pieces.

Not so hot. Some funny lines, some funny situations, but really not that great.

Hilarious movie, would give it a higher ranking, but some parts of this movie are a bit boring, so I knocked off some points.

Despite starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence as well as featuring Bernie Mac the film is not much of a comedy. However it fails to really be anything special as a dramatic film, but the movie altogether is fairly entertaining if nothing more than average.

The first half was sort of tolerable, but the latter one went down the drain. If you dig the acting flow by Eddie Murphy or Martin Lawrence, you might like it. But guys did not give anything new for the persona they repeated in quite many comedies like this. I was pleased to see Lisa Nicole Carson though.

ennnnhh. A lot of the comedy in this is just Eddie Murphy doing that thing he does where he talks really fast and just says the same thing over and over again but slightly differently each time, and it gets old fast. I dont think I actually laughed once the whole film. But it also tries to tell a story about masculine friednship within a framework of racial injustice, and its not... terrible? Not good either, but it's decent enough that the film is tolerable and watchable throughout its runtime.

Begins as a kind of extension of the Harlem Nights experience, only with less glamour. Those scenes are good, and Murphy has decent chemistry with Lawrence, who works far better as the 'straight man' here than he did in his terrible star vehicles of the late 90's/early 00's, but Demme has problems controlling the tone, so it often shifts awkwardly between drama and comedy. It also loses steam in the final act where Murphy and Lawrence are sporting ridiculous old age makeup.

Strong humor and pacing make this one worth watching.

Bad

Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence. Watching the two of them you would almost think they didn't know how funny they are. Oh wait, nope, I'm mistaken they DEFINITELY know how funny they are. And MAN they are funny. In all seriousness though, this movie is actually pretty good, the broad performances of the two leads aside.

Actually ends up very touching

The make-up is great, and it actually looks pretty. Lawrence has some good lines. WHA..?

Muct better than I expected. It's great to see Lawrence play the straight guy.

It's cheap, immature, and just a wholly bad movie, but there is a little bit of charm to be found.

Not at all a comedy, but rather a depressing coming-of-age story. The story doesn't quite get there, and it's hard to believe Martin Lawrence's character didn't hold a grudge the whole time.

Though the make up was excellent the story/script was tedious and horribly cliched. that combined with absolutely unoriginal directing and hardly any attempt at any good acting from the leads make a major disappointment. Too bad, it could have been so good!

This is supposed to be a comedy right? Laugh as people get thrown in jail for crimes they didn't commit, howl as they suffer & grow old, guffaw as they are forced to do hard labor, snicker as they bicker endlessly, enjoy the realistic racism, clap & thrill as the gay lover commits suicide! Ha Ha!

Probably the last good movie Murphy has made. When the main stars of a movie is Murphy and Lawrence you expect the movie to be extreme and over the top, but this movie is actually quite good. A nice movie for an evening on the couch.

Holy shit this is bad.

Rather boring.

This film tries to be to serious while still going for some laughs as well. The mix does not work well here. The actors try hard but they an not rise above the weak material. Overall This movie is disappointing.

So someone went and saw Cool Hand Luke and said wouldn't it be cool if we made the same movie, but introduce race into the mix?

Great cast. Two young black men end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and get setup for a murder they didn't commit, then they are sent to prison for life. They try to escape a few times, and fight among themselves in this sometimes hilarious but overall sad story about two very unlucky guys and racial injustice in the 40's. A few funny moments and entertaining situations are mixed into their long hardship together. The ending was a little cheap and too predictable.

good movie

Eh, I guess it is alright but it still just shows Muprhy's decline from Beverly Hills Cop. I mean, it isn't as offensively bad as The Nutty Professor but neither is it hilarious fun like Trading Places. The idea of the movie is interesting but the plot is rather dull and nothing much happens; at all. I mean, for a film of this supposed magnitude, it just has no character, nothing to hold on to. At least Bernie Mac does pretty well as Jangle Leg in the early part; of course, he had to go. Urgh.

Not a bad movie - they did a really great job on the makeup - now I know what Edie Murphy and Martin Lawrence will look like in their 80's

A comedy without jokes that feels like a life sentence to watch? Yes please!

This film was recommended to me, and I was surprised that I'd never seen it before, given the massive talent on screen. Having seen it, I appreciated so much about what was going on behind the scenes in terms of visuals...you don't normally get this kind of focus on things like costume, set design, or make up, but all of that was fantastic here. Still isn't a movie I'd car to rewatch any time soon, but I apprciated a lot of what was going on.

Great Fun, good buddy story

Takes a while to get going, but this is a solid piece of entertainment.
