An illustrator draws some sketches at lightning speed. He first illustrates how he can turn a written word into a sketch of that word. The first word he writes is coon, which he transforms into a sketch of a black man. The next word he writes is Cohen, which he transforms into a sketch of a Jewish looking man. He is then visited on set by another man, who makes a smudge on the drawing surface. The illustrator turns that smudge into a sketch of that visiting man. (imdb)

Another early mix of Blackton's vaudeville drawing routine and his animation techniques. It's not quite as good as some of the others, and opening with racial caricatures probably isn't the best way to win over audiences these days. Still, it's interesting how much of Blackton's early animation was about playing around with the medium itself (in some he goes in and smudges up the drawings, in this one the paper gets crumpled and torn up, etc.).

Short and fun. These are the types of short I tend to enjoy.

It is 1907 man, there were better animations than this that didn't hit you in the face with racism
