Lilith

A really not very satisfying tale of mental illness

Lilith isn't the most convincing patient and Beatty's performance could be more mature. However, the atmosphere created by the sanitarium, it's surroundings and it's people provides a strangely pleasant viewing experience. The story isn't very subtle but Bruce's gradual capitulation to insanity has the air of a successful drama.

Beautiful, but just not my cup of tea. This fits with a bunch of classic films about mental patients such as The Three Faces of Eve that just seem dated nowadays. Jean Seberg is enchanting. Warren Beatty just isn't convincing as anyone who should be working with patients. Fav scene: watching Seberg interact and flirt with the boys was tense since I didn't know if she would ice pick them.

why should I watch a boring faux European film with jean seberg when I can watch a boring real European film with jean seberg?

A good early example of Warren Beatty bringing off-beat/uncommercial projects to the mainstream.

Very good drama, with a mystical, almost fairytale quality to it.
