Little Big League

A great example of a high concept idea being played for all it's worth; overcomes the inherent silliness of the premise by developing it in intelligent, insightful (and realistic) ways, and communicating a genuine love, and the allure, of the game of baseball. A terrific cast never plays down to the material, anchored by Edwards' charming and unselfconsciously mature performance; Crow is also lovely as his supportive mother. Overlength and slightly sluggish pacing are the only detriments.

A neat look at what it'd be like if a kid got to run a baseball team. Plus, Timothy Busfield reminds me of Doug Mientkiewicz.

Worth it for the trick play at the end alone

The sins of the son should be held against the sins of the father for whoever greenlighted this trashheap.

Same vein as Rookie of the Year but cooler.

Hollywood got totally crazy with this ending.

In comparison with the other baseball film for kids that year (Rookie of the Year), it isn't good. Plus, it doesn't have Gary Busey.

First saw it when I was 9 and thought it was pretty good. 25 years later, it works for adults, too. As a kid, I enjoyed the fantasy. As an adult, I enjoyed the absurdist humor, the unpredictable writing, but also the wholesome, optimistic themes. It's a nice family film, but not overly juvenile or saccharine like some of its contemporaries.

Seen: 2+. As a kid who loved baseball, the thought of owning a MLB team was right up my alley. I don't think this one holds up much though.
